JJ18 - Saturday at 5:37 am is when you'll get yer cow. If I'm wrong, blame Saltheart :P ...

Actually the board is slow at times when there is heavy access occuring... The problem was more than likely not on your end...

does the board perform differently through a t1 than through a dial-up modem?? i got a t1 at work and it always seems a little more sluggish than when i log on at home through my trusty 56K...

...5:37 am sat?? you mean its gonna take 4 hours and 37 minutes to get my 40 lber?? the place i'll be dies off at slack, so it better happen by 4 am...

Shhheeeeooot, I don't even know what the tide is doing at the Ditch this weekend, That was a PFA (Pluck From Air)... MOF (matter of fact - not uh, anything else, hehehe) - If I were that good at predicting the future, let's just say I would have other sources of income ;D ...

JohnR and JJ18,

There was a thread over on SOL that linked to the thread with Blong's cow pic. That might have created a heap of outside traffic, leading to delays. Tim S even went out of his way to note how such a post (with link) there could wreak havoc over on this site. I believe it was done with respect and understanding that only an administrator could truly know.

Then again, I could be catching nothing but weeds on this....the traffic affecting this board's speed this AM.

John, if you are in need of a newer server, I would be happy to kick in, as I am sure many of us would be. Let me/us know.

I have a cable modem, everything loads in an eyeblink until I try to open an individual thread, and the more replies in it, the longer it takes. No big deal, I just have a separate window with either Free Cell or Minesweeper and play that while I'm waiting.

The threads usually open long before I blow up on Minesweeper. When the page loads, I usually hit a mine on purpose and read the page.

I'm only half serious, guys. Just that I got spoiled by this cable. The page still takes less time to load than it did when I had dial-up.

My work terminal has the world's worst DSL hooke-up, but there it's the fault of the guy that set up our system, EVERY site loads like molasses.

Ox - How the hell are you?

Yeh, it's slow when it needs to parse all of the files to build the page you see. The solution is to switch to a real database but I'm waiting until I'm comfortable in fixing it when it breaks. Once comfortable, I'll move everything over to that.... In the meantime, I'll keep throwing more CPU and fast drives on it which may happen as early as this weekend: 1.2Ghz processor, 512MB FAST ram, 2 9gig SCSI drives (almost but not quite as much fun as my (former) old 455 Grand Prix, hehehe)
