vhf channel questions

Howdy Gang,

Just returned from a weeks worth of fishing with Uncle Matt and his Boat. Let's save the horrible fishing reports for later, though

I have a couple a questions:

We were using his boat and trying to hail #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& and a few others on Matts VHF. Can someone explain the channels to me? We had a little "Cheat Sheet" but it really did not go into detail.

Do we hail on 16 and then switch to another channel to talk? Which channels are for what use? I understand that 13 is for the Canal traffic but what others should we have and use for emergencies, talk around, fishing info etc?

Thanks

Bob Thomas "Newbie First Mate" aboard the "Scotch and Water"

In fact Missing Link, you were one of the ones we were trying to raise. It was last Saturday, a week ago, in the fog. I heard you calling #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&. We tried calling you but no luck. My boats name is "Scotch-N-Water." On well maybe next time. Did you get out today ML?

I'm home from vacation now with bronchitis and I'm frigging miserable. I want to get out tomorrow but it's not looking good seeing I can barely breath. This both sucks and blows!

Bob,
If for some reason your on a boat in the Boston area use ch. 69. Most people stay on 69.

If you're in the boston area the CC gets pissed if you hail on 16.
They want you to use 9.
