Hey, after yesterday's outstanding performance at the barbie, we're gonna have to start calling him The Iron Chef

Damn, Ben, I didn't even mind missing dinner last night after all that food!

I was just goofing around the 'tail before the BBQ and working on my lousy casting technique.

Let me tell you, flyrodding rock piles - which I haven't done much of - IS NOT EASY, especially when the wind is blowing the wrong way. I'm intrigued by the challenge.

Was fortunate to meet up with Mr. Fish_Eye, who had just come back from Costa Rica. Oh the fishing stories Mike told me!

went to Costa Rica in Feb.. landed 1 black marlin and a sail. the pic actually looks like the same 1st mate we had on our boat.. Fisheye, where do you go out from in Rica, what captain ? we were in Tamarindo.. NW part of the country

That's a picture of my daughter with her first Pacific Sail -- estimated at around 140 pounds. It was taken in Costa Rica just last month.

I managed to hook this on in the face, but after a series of spectacular jumps it threw the hook and managed to re-hook itself just under the dorsal fin -- just like you would hook a herring if you wanted to keep it alive forever --
needless to say it took a lot of help from the captain to bring this puppy to the boat.



I've always stayed at the Crocodile Bay Lodge, where I’ve done a lot of filming above and below water. I’ve produced a number of videos and DVDs for the lodge and now I represent them. I may sound a little bias, but who wouldn’t be when every time you visit the place (14 times so far) spectacular things happen…both in the jungle and on the water.

Here are a few pictures I shot on recent trips:

The lodge is conveniently located near the airport in Puerto Jimenez, on the Osa Peninsula; it’s on the Pacific coast about as far south as you can get before you run into Panama. National Geographic considers it the most bio-diverse location on the planet. This picture shows the lodge, its 750’ dock (which has 40 pound snook swimming under it), and the nearby river mouth where enormous snook, giant roosterfish, and cubera snapper like to hang out.



This one sort of captures what the offshore fishing for sails is all about. The run to the blue water can be as little as 30 minutes depending on season of the year and direction of the current.

When I went offshore with my wife and daughter we were immediately surrounded by so many porpoises we just had to stop and get in the water with them. It was a blast watching my daughter snorkeling as a hundred or so dolphin swam past…a very special father/daughter bonding moment.



When we finally got offshore my wife started slamming tuna and mahi like there was no tomorrow – too bad they were miniscule.



However, it wasn’t long before she took her first sailfish…and in only 20 minutes.



By the end of the day we had taken five sailfish, all over 120 pounds, raised 10 others and I had one of the best family outings of my life…one that we will all remember forever. That’s what Crocodile Bay delivers repeatedly…that’s why everyone that’s booked a trip with me and has visited in 2004 has already rebooked for 2005.
