Going to Salisbury state reservation Fishing

Hello!

My family and I are making our annual Camping trip down to Salisbury state reservation, in Mass. I'm up in Canada and I have to say I love going to Salisbury state reservation, been going there for close to 20 years. The people are great and its a great town. I have always fished up here is Canada's nice lakes but never really done any saltwater fishing until a few years ago. I have to say I'd rather fight a Striper from shore then fighting a fat ol'Largemouth bass hidden in some lilly pads.

I'll be down there for the first 2 weeks of July and fishing at the Merrimack river mouth (across from Plum Island); does anyone know how the fishing is? I'm not looking to take fish from your water I fish catch and release (unless fish is badly injured), Its not like you need a another Canadian taking fish from your water, Aehy! Well just wondering if anyone knows if the Strippers are around.

I'm just wondering. What are your thoughts on tourists fishing your water? Do you think waters are being over fished?
I only ask is because up here (Ontario, Canada) our waters are almost out of fish, its not what it use to be... You have to drive to some seriously hidden lakes to find great fishing... its pretty sad.

I grew up traveling to and fishing a lake in Ontario. My dad's uncle was one of the original "settlers" on the lake. It was a great largemouth lake with alot of smallies and some lake trout. We'd go there in fall and the lake was empty and the fishing was awesome. We were all catch 'n release except for a handful of fish we kept for a traditional fish dinner.

The last few years we went, '98-'00, I think, the fishing was awful. Many of the spots that typically held fish, were just dead. I don't know why, but you started to see more and more bass boats. When we went thru the '80's thru the early 90's, there were almost no other people fishing for bass. And they were in big clunky steel boats w/ 6 HP.

I think we are going to try and revive that trip this fall. It is a great spot.

I don't have much of an opinion on tourists fishing my home waters. I fish Boston harbor and there is usually 100 boats out there, I don't know or care where they are from. I'd love to have the whole ocean to myself, but that's not very realistic. I would think surf guys probably have a stronger opinion on this, since access becomes a bigger issue each year.

I heard you guys had better strippers up there? I don't fish that area, so I can't really be of help. I just wanted to be the first one to jump on the strippers joke.

Yeah, I remember a place called Club Supersex on St. Ann street in Montreal. $5.00 lap dances. Oh the mam- er memories.

That's really too bad, as a kid I remember taking a trip across the border with my uncle into Ontario to fish a couple of nice lakes for some yellow perch, walleye, and catfish. The action was awesome, sorry to hear the water is all depleted.

The stripers are in the river and on the oceanfront. Fishing has been pretty good with both bait and plugs. Small blues are starting to show up now.

All in all it should be a pretty good couple of weeks that you have planned in the area.
