can a bluefish actualy bite a striper in 1/2?

happen to me twice.
once off the airport a couple years ago.
and the other day off deer island.

both times the bass were about 25" size class.
and they were bitten clean in half one solid motion spine and all.

Same thing happened to me a few years back. I saw the Bluefish while I did a little tug of war until he chopped right thru the striper. It was a BIG bluefish. The striper was only a 15-16 incher.

I have had the same thing happen to me. A Bluefish took half a bass, it cut it clean and left a hakf circle bit mark. Then of course it was nowhere near keeper size, so I threw it back and they finished the bass off. This all happen while I was in water up to ny chest.

happened to a friend friday, except it was a 25# yellowfin bitten in half about 120 miles offshore, and it wasn't a bluefish. although it was blue. right behind the boat. sweet.

A big , big blue could bite a small striper in half but I'd bet its a shark doing it.

I'll believe it, I've seen blues bight tautog in half, and those things are a lot tougher than any striper.

about 5 years ago down in Long Island In October I was on the beach with a buddy. We had 15-20 lb slammers in the surf for several hours. On this morning we watched those same 15-20 lb blues chase schoolies and 3-5 lb weakfish right out of the water onto the beach. Several times we saw bass and weaks missing the last several inches of the tail ends. Most of the morning we went around picking up the bass and weaks and throwing them back in the water because they jumped so far up the beach onto the sand. These blues were so big and aggressive we were throwing big 12" pencil poppers and almost every one we caught had swallowed the pencil so far down only 1" was sticking out of its mouth. It was nature at its best. Eat or be eaten.

With a blue u wil feel the tell tale chop chop chop as they bite an tear.A shrk will go thru a bass in one felled swoop.More like u described. They will co-exist in the same area without any foulplay but when a fish gets exited the shark will attack.I've had monster blues 15#+ eat tailor sized blues but never a bass. I've have seen them eat just about every other hook an lined fish.We usta liveline herring at the backside of madaket for bass an hook sharks they are a great fight.Scary when ur standing in the water up to ur waste an u see the fin chasin ur buky back towards u.Too bad they don't aquire more of a taste for cormarants.

i believe it....

i wish i still had it....(burned up in the house fire) but one pitch black night ..i was out fishing in my boat and had cast out a home made plug....
and suddeny i got the hit and hookset of a lifetime and nearly broke the rod (solid fiberglass in those days with graphite not even invented then) so i'm fighting it...and i feel it suddenly pull free from a headshake....and sensing a plug and treble hooks was heading my way real fast i ducked and turned my back to it.... then i heard WACK as it hit the side of the boat . i checked out the plug for signs of teeth marks and it was now just a half of a plug bitten in half. i think it was a shark though.
