Cherry ???

Is it any good for plugs. My father just had a tree removed from his property and he's saving me a few select pieces for some plugs. Should be nice a dry after drying in the shed over the winter.

What capesams said..

I had good luck with birch by splitting into quarters green and letting it dry by my woodstove about a month. It relieves soem of the internal strss when you split it....

Thanks guys. Should be getting some pieces about 3" - 4" and 2 ft. long. In think I'll just seal and clear coat.

You might want to put some latex paint on the end grain while the wood dries out. It will help the wood dry in a more uniform manner and reduce the chance of it splitting.
