Rhody Leg!!!
OK - We have the Rhody Leg coming up Saturday and we'll have people coming from all over. People have been e-mailing me with questions of what to bring for fish and for food and how we'll fish. The early weather is looking real good for this weekend (granted, it is early)... OK - people should figure to meet at Weekapaug B&T in Westerly, RI at 1-1:30 or so as that's when we'll kick off the grillin'... Any gourmet chefs that want to handle the grille duties? I managed not to poison people last time but it was close...
How we fish:
What we usually do is group up people with similar fishing styles; (like chunkin', eeling, Korker Capable Rock hoppers,...) and locals and not so locals. This means that a guy with bad wheels doesn't need to follow the marathoner out to the end of a 1.5 mile walk in the sand... At the same time, the angler that wants to bounce around a lot can do so with like-minded anglers...
Quick format reminder: Catch & Release bass signed off by another board member - the minimum size to measure with now is 39 inches as Canalratts 38 is the smallest fish. The biggest at this time is 42.5 inches.
The current leader board is:
1) 42.5 inch - Redcrbbr
2) 41 inch - Fishpart
3) 38 inch - Canalratt1
If you get a Fifty and chose to keep it, you don’t win the prize (I’d rather get the 50 )
What to bring - Fishing:
Bring your style and what you are prepared for - typically, you'll want 2 rods (you may not always bring them with you) if you have them as the fishing can have tons of variety this time of year. Something to throw the light stuff and the more traditional nightstick... Depends really on how you fish.... Personally, I fish mostly live eels and some pulggin' with needles/teasers & swimmers...
Recommend:
Waders and/or Splash Pants
Dry waterproof top
Korkers if you get 'em
Typical night gear - necklight/petzel - spare batteries
Bring layers of clothing in case it gets cold - (they're saying mid fifites)
What to bring for food?
OK - Everyone has been asking, what to bring? I usually bring the burgers & dogs - buns, rolls, and the basic condiments....
Saltheart - has had an awesome but evil strawberry desert the last few outings
Other than that, who wants to bring what???
Again, this is open to all board members and we have a couple guys pitching in from Weekapaug Surfcasters and Johnny Habs too...
Any other questions?

Yes , I will be bringing the strawberry shortcake again. Tough getting good berries now but I'm sure all will be happy with the desert.
I guess I'm thinking that if the smallets fish entered is 38 , that anything over 38 is OK? Like 38.5 beats 38?
The hope is that Smokey and I will get there early. I'd really like to be on a beach by 3 to 3:30 . I'll leave the Strawberry shortcake fixings at Weekapaug so late comers can get some too.
For Friday I'm just bringing my all around rod 10.5 foot Loomis 1266 conventional for plugging and eeling but for Sat afternoon I hope to be armed to the teeth with 2 additional rods , a schoolie rod and my Breakaway 11'9" in case them afternoon schools hang way out and I need distance to reach them.
The weather is suppose to be very cooperative. remember that it could be 30 degrees this time of year at night so 50 is like heaven.! I can't wait!!

I'll be there at opening time on Saturday (1 pm) and bringing shrimp. I'll be chunking mostly, will also be ready for eels and plugs if that is what is working. I'll probably hang around mostly near the meeting place (it was good to me last Friday), but may head to Charlestown if it is too slow. See ya then, provided the new car doesn't pull what the old one did last time!!!

Arrival is up in the air. If I'm left unsupervised for the weekend (which is looking good right now ) I'll be there by one and will gladly operate the grill. Might even try to get a little time in on Friday night.

I'd be good for some oatmeal raisin cookies. Actually, I would love peanut butter cookies but since a lot of people are allergic to nuts, don't want to kill anyone.

Ha Ha John, Never had a grape nehi but I assume that is in reference to Gary Burghoff (Radar). I think grape nehis went out like 30 years ago so maybe you, old man, can tell me what they were like. I can give shots right back ya see?
Any idea of how many people are showing up? Would be easier to know how many people to bring cookies for.

I'm headed down and since I don't have a definative head count, I think I'll ask the misses if a big batch of choc. chip cookies would be a problem. If there is something else that would be more helpful for me to bring (no plastic for you BM), then let me know. Since I don't have korkers, I'll be following the beach crowd I guess, or maybe that BM fellow since he seems to be a fish magnet .

Iceman - is "Chuck Knoblauch" his nickname because when he sight casts, he overthrows the swirl he's aiming for? Or because he's been gunning good for years?
OK - executive decision time here. The tourney is technically open to members that have signed up and completed the basic amount of posts (10) required by the Sunday before each leg (in this case, last Sunday) as well as some people that have contributed to the site in a sort of "behind the scene" way such as reports and fisheries info like Chubsdad & Bobbike & Dan Pedro (Dan - you coming to the meet?). Some members of Weekapaug Surfcasters will be here as well to show the pulse of the local fishing scene since Saltheart & I have the power to bring others along as well. But I also want to keep it as open to everyone as I can.
Some new future members (like Chuck Knoblauch )and others should sign up as a member (just register a name on the boards) by Saturday or if a member is going to bring someone else (other than their significant other), just let us know on this thread.
I'll need to make a "prize change" in respect of the members that have been fishing the previous legs of the tourney and have been longstanding members of the site is that in order to win the top prize in the C&R portion of the Tourney, (as listed on the Tourney Page - Rulez ) you will need to have been registered as of last Sunday as mentioned in previous threads. All of the other prizes are open to all that fish.
So Iceman, make sure "Chuck" & your other brother are registered members over the next couple days (plug 'em in to the system yourself if they don't have computers). And, again, anyone else that is braving the horrid October Rhody water (yeh - right - it's gonna be stinkin' beautiful this weekend) - please register and follow up on this thread....
Any questions or comments?
Thanks,
John

**** Also - because there seems to be more people coming Saturday - anyone want to bring additional food such as burgers or dogs or rolls? I already have a couple dozen of each but we may need more.... So if you just put up on this thread if you're bringing something... ****

I will have some venny burgers going to the highest bidders or the anglers who can lead me to some fish. I'll be fishing with Specialist and have waders but no Korkers, I'm used to falling on rocks though! I'll bring my Ditch stick but will also have a lighter spinning rod (UGH!) to use too. Looks like eels and rubber for me.

Good stuff John. Knobby, is Knobby because when he casts for sripers all he seems to hit are seagulls. Actually, Edna looks exactly like Knoblauch, it's almost scary. My bro (Looney - a separate story) is away until Friday, will register for him, he will most likely not make it John, I will bring some fresh hot peppers stuffed with mozerella and prosciutto marinated in garlic oil, they go well with live eels. Sorry for any inconvience, less worried about the prizes. Just wanna catch some fish - still got the itch from Cape trip 2 weeks ago - cannot let it go.....
