Wood
What about using sugar pine for plugs. Too soft? Seems tighter grain and harder than white pine. Interested in opinions. P.M.

white pine is close to sugar pine, so unless you need it for a specific plug design, its prob. not worth the extra dough to go wit sugaa

That is what Gibbs used for years. But as John stated mucho dinero. Not easy to find clear stuff anymore. Basswood is nice too but a little bit heavier, turns awesome though.

Thanks for the opinions guys. I don't need to buy it I have a bunch just sitting down the cellar. I figured it would be nice to turn someday. Guess I will take it to work to the band saw and get started. What do you guys use as an all around reasonably priced and easily obtainable wood for your plugs. Also do certain plugs require certain types of woods to be used. Thanks . P.M.
