Cod

My buddy has a 20 foot whaler. He lives in Duxbury. We are looking for some good spots to catch cod that would be apropriate for his boat. We'd be willing to trailer it for a stretch if we had to. All help is greatly appreciated........

Ther is always Boston Harbor. There are alot of places up there that your boat would be perfect.

I know cod can be found just outside of Plymouth/Duxbury, easily within a couple miles. What I don't do enough, is cod fish in that area so I can't say exactly where... I do know that a lot of the ledges near Scituate are starting to hold cod as well as the Harbor Islands like BM mentions and in probably half the 50' and deeper water in Cape Cod Bay...

Left you a reply on the reports board. Another hint watch for the party boats (Andylynn and Capt. John) they are always out that way and around good bottom. Don't crowd them they don't appreciate it!

Report for Nov. 4th. My buddy headed out of Green Harbor and got into small cod in only 24 feet! It weas rough so he stayed in close but it calmed and headed to around the 80 to 100 foot area. Got some macs and a whiting. Used the whiting for bait and had it cut in half, still maybe blues around. He got his ten keepers biggest going 12 lbs. Jigged mostly still alot of dogs.

Hi Stroth, Boston Harbor has alot of Cod right now, we have been out several times over the last 2 weeks and limited out every time. We have been fishing over by Nahant, you could trailer up too the Wesagusset ramp on Weymouth/ Hingham line and go out from there, would only take you about 20 min to get there depending on the wind, We have a 20 ft Lund Alaskan and can get there just fine if wind is under 20 notts, If you go there you want to go over the area and look for the 50 ft mark, and start jigging, we haven't been using bait as the dogfish are everywhere. We have been using jigs from 8 oz - 14 depending on the wind and drift speed. Last week I got a cod that was almost 20 lbs, and just this past weekend, Squidmama caught a 14 lber, so they are holding there in that 50 ft mark, once you find them you are golden and will slam them. If you have any other questions just email me!!! Hope this helps sorry its late but been fishing!!!!

THANKS

Thanks again for the great replies...we're planning on going out in the next couple of weeks or so, but as many of you know these trips can be difficult to plan.

Does anyone have any knowledge of any spots where cod can be caught from the shore????? I've heard rumors, but never experienced anything concrete. I'd love some info...on what I see as a fascinating possible fishery....
