Hotfish,
Plenty of big blues out there, especially during August. We usually catch one or two a year.

Marlin
Thats awesome, don't have the boat to go to the canyons, but maybe some day.......I'll check it out. How's that guy associated with the Patriots? I just saw some pictures on the site and he was in the Patriots Rally Parade driving his truck and a float.

I was hooked up to a big Blue for almost 2 hrs last summer during the Cuttyhunk tourney. I was almost spooled a couple of times and had it to the boat a couple of times before breaking it off. We actually leadered it once. Best estimate is about 12 feet and 5-600lbs. It naturally hit the smallest rod in the spread, a TLD25 spoled w/30lb line. I was using the same fighting belt we give to the rookies when we jig bass. I give alot of credit to the guys who fish for these guys w/ standup gear. I was wrecked. Next year we use a bucket harness and nothing under 50lb gear....yeah sure we will. Tom

That would have been an unbelievable catch, I wonder what the line class record is in mass??? If you leadered it, by IGFA standards, thats a catch ya know! As long as someone touches the leader, it's qualified as a catch. Nice job!

to answer your question IGFA line class record on 30#atlantic blue marlin is 872 lbs taken off madeira portugal 1995. heres another tidbit IGFA trustee Ralph G christiansen just caught his 600th atlantic blue marlin. Billfishing is an addiction I've been hooked for the last 10 years. Great fish with amazing power We're lucky to have them off our coast line even though you have to travel a long distance by boat they are worth the trip.
