Where to get fresh bait??

Hey guys,

Quick question. I am looking to go out codding this weekend out of gloucester. The problem is I need to get some fresh clams for bait. My dad usually gets them for me in new bedford but I dont have the time with my work sched to go pick them up. Is there a place in the Northshore area (gloucester, salem etc) where I can get them? I sure there is but i just dont know of any yet. Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

Steve

try fishermans outfitters, right in downtown glosta.

Go to www.baitnet.com and click on MA on the map. Choose the town you want and you get a list of shops. In Gloucester, I know some listed shops have closed, but Winchester is open and has bait. The shop mentioned above might be Captain Vito's who also sells fish and sandwiches.

Looking for clams!!! when ya come to Gloucester, take exit 14 off ramp go east about 2-1/2 miles on left is yankee fleet or you see sign "the gull restaurant" or "cape ann marina" can't miss it!!!!

They have frozen clams, squid and herring and fresh seaworms!!! Sat. & Sun they open at 5am!!!

If trailering a boat, when leaving marina turn left go to you see the water, turn left, over bridge, turn left at lights, high school on left and a nice public boat ramp is behind high school!!!

You will not find any fresh, unfrozen clams on the weekend!!!! They don't take long to thaw!!!

There has been alot of mackeral in the harbor!!!!

If looking for fresh bait, "HERRING" come all the way down 128 half way around the rotary, up extendsion to 2nd rotary, half way around, down extendsion, turn right at lights , go straight through intersection, go 1/2 mile, bear left at fork in road over small hill, you will start to see dunkin donuts on right, wall greens also on right, turn left just "AFTER" walgreens you see building center, just after building center is wharf and they should have a fresh bait sign out!!! Open about 5:30 -6am!!!
