Lord of the Rings

I'm a big fan of Tolkien. Some of you know I make jewelry for a hobby. I sell under the name Feanar (faya nar) . Feanar was a great elven craftsman who made the silmarils (3 great jewels). Many years later , afetr Feanar left middle earth , one of Feanars sons made the rings of power for the elves , dwarves and men. The One Ring was forged by the Dark Lord to steal the power of the 19 rings made by the son of Feanar. Anyway , I chose Feanar for the name of my jewelry enterprise.
Also , My boat is named Narya. Narya is the name of one of the 3 elven rings. Its power is to instill courage in men.

Did I say I'm a big Tolkien fan?

I already have a ticket for tomorrow night. I had to go opening day. Just had to. I've never seen any of the big movies on opening day before but for this one I bought the ticket online ahead of time.

Best I can from memory , heres the legend.

Three rings for elven kings under the sky. Nine for mortal men doomed to die. Seven for the dwarf lords in their halls of stone. One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne. In the land of Mordor where the Shadow lies.

One ring to rule them all.One ring to find them. One ring to bring them back and in the darkness bind them. In the land of Mordor where the Shadow lies.

I love this stuff!!

Any other Lord of the Rings Fans out there... my precious?

Saltheart - enjoy the show. I never much got into Tolkien or that genre. I was more into King & Clancy (later on)... My wife is dying to see this though so I'll watch our boy and she'll stag it to the movie ...

I did see a few bigger movies on their first days; ID4, Star Trek(s), Star Wars 1... Never saw Perfect Storm until 2 months after it came out even though I had sworn to myself I'd be there on opening day....

Saw "Hunt for Red October" on opening day, wanted to name boat to "Hunt for Miss October" - same idea nyuck, nyuck, nyuck....

I almost went to the special showing at midnight near my house but had to be in work at 5am today . 2 hours sleep to then sit at my desk for the better part of the day . I think not ! now if it was fishing !

oh well on to middle earth !

When I was a driver of an armor clad vehicle in the 70's . I used to read all of tolkeins stuff sitting in my drivers hatch . Had a lot of time to sit and wait to move out . I ve read them all ( 4 ) about a dozen times . On my steel pot ( helmet ) my camaflouge cover had a band that I wrote the name "Frodo" on . I was an 18 year old hobbit on an adventure just like my boy Frodo Baggins was .

"its mine , I found it, give it to me, my birthday present . Weve lost it ..... my precious "

If you've read 4 , you got to read 1 more Chris. i assume the 4 you read are the hobbit and the trilogy. There's another called the Silmarilian which used to be hard to find but all the bookstores have it now. Excellent on its own but a must read if you have already read the other 4. In fact , after reading the silmarilian you'll want to reread the other 4 cause everything will get all tied together for you by what the Silmarilian has to say.
I'm going at 7:30 tonight. I looked for the special midnight showings last night but couldn't find one.

Hope you enjoy it too chris.

I read the first four. Great stuff. I read most of them while working in a tire shop the summer betwen highschool and college. In between tire changes I'd go back and park it in a pile of recaps and read away. The guys in the shop thought i was nuts (they were reading the smut magazines). I gotta say they were a great read.
