Loose line on 704z when eeling, breaking off fish

My 6500ss anti reverse crapped out and ive been using my 704z. I broke off a bunch of nice fish last night because the drag was seizing, i thought. Took it to a shop and i was told that the line was way to loose(from the light weight eel) and was getting buried causing it to stop. He said i should put tension on the line when it gets loose to keep it tight. ABout every 10 casts tonight i put tension on it when i reeled in , and still lost a lot of nice fish cause of it seizing!!! WTF should i do? Never had this problem with the 6500ss and eels

Make sure your tip guide isn't cracked. My fuglystik did that, took me a while to decode that mystery.

bummer chef... i agree with th eguide theory. take a cotton ball and swish it around the guides. If there is cotton dangling from your guide, you need to replace it.
