Vandalism at fishing spots?
Vandalism... A victimless crime? I used to a little while ago but now I realize vandalism is far from a victimless crime. For example, when a person chose to deface the area in which I fish to get some sort of "revenge" on me, every person that looks at that crime pays the price. To think, one person who would steal beauty from hundreds of people to get back at someone else, must be insane or be very angry at me.
Now who would do something like this?
First, the person probably lives in Fairfield, CT because you need to be a Fairfield Resident to enter the marina at night.
Second, the Person must have known I was "JettyJockey" from the websites.
Third, the person had to be very pissed off at me. Perhaps he even snapped at me.
Now one person I know fits the description. He was very angry at me, lives in Fairfield and even goes on those websites. If anyone has put it together yet, and I'm sure you have, IGNORE this man from now on. What this man did was wrong! For legality matters, I will not name him. But what JettyJockey hating, webcrawling, Fairfielder do we all know?
The bottom line is, no matter if you like me or not, defacing a fishing spot is not cool. If it is the man that I believe is responsible, it is terribly immature for his age. Thankyou. Remember, IGNORE him from now on. Your online fishing community is against what this man did.

RE:Vandalism at fishing spots?
Patrick, I'm sorry to hear that area was vandalized. I hate it when it happens almost anywhere (the Berlin Wall was one place that vandalism certainly fit) and I really hate it along our shores. Now I don't want to guess who may have done this slander to you (I really don't know) or what was even said, but chalk this up as an unfortunate incident and move on.
I think we've all seen how the Internet can foster ill intent and retribution for previous misdeeds. I also know that you've tweaked people before, wether they deserved it or not (often not ). Sometimes this happens as a result. Uncool but it happens. You've been a decent fellow here which is why you don't get alot of flack and I'd like to see it stay that way...
Not knowing what was done, can the damage be repaired or cleaned?? Drop me an e-mail, OK?
BTW, I'll be down there this coming weekend fishing the Bluefish Tourney by boat but I might try to get out one night with some eels...

RE:Vandalism at fishing spots?
John, you won't be able to park anywhere near the beach unfortunately. All of the beaches are closed at night and a chain is strung across the gates. During the day, you need a permit to park. See, if you take Federal money for your beaches, you need to admit everyone who wants to go to the beach. And my town, oh so smart, will let everyone and anyone enter on foot or bike. But, you need a permit to park your car. That's how they get you. And the town has marked anywhere in the vicinity of the beach a No Parking Zone. There are a few places you can park.
If you go to the South Benson Marina, go in the marina and make your first left. That is the visitor center. Then you must walk to the beach, and follow the shoreline down to the reef. It's a decent walk because of the sand.
Another place to park is by Bud's Delicatessan on Reef Road or right by "The Sea Grape" bar also on Reef road. And Veteran's Park also on Reef Road. The Sea Grape is closer but I heard that sometimes you can go back to find your car towed away.
Try to hit the reef on the rising tide. Walk past the little jetty. If you walk out about 500 feet, cast to your right. There is a sand bar that juts out called "Shark Bar", there is a gap in between Shark Bar the the reef. That's where I got that 36-40 inch bass. After that, it's anyones guess. One word of caution, avoid high tide. Not because it gets really deep, it's the current thats going to knock you off the drop off. It seems like for every step you take forward, you need to take two or three up against the current.
Also, theres another jetty about 150 yards down from the reef. It is maybe 5 or 6 feet deep at the tip. I don't fish that one often.
I'll drop you an email and see if I can make it down there. You will know me. I have a big red star on my hat.

RE:Vandalism at fishing spots?
JohnM,
Yes, same tourney. My brother-in-law (the other one) lives down there in Trumbull and we fish out of Bridgeport/Stratford/Fairfield alot, usually by boat. Are you and Mr. Williams fishing from shore?? Or a leaky dingy like me?
Patrick, you never said how bad the damage or what type it was....

RE:Vandalism at fishing spots?
The damage wasn't bad. On one bench, it had "Patrick's Keepers" written on top of it inside a 12 inch marking. On a sign it says, "No Jetty Jockeys" and "JJ" in the big red anti-circle. Now this doesn't seem so bad but when you consider the reasons why he did this and the fact that he is one of us, it is pretty awful.
Now as I said before, I know I have stuff coming to me sometimes and I have pushed a few buttons but to harass someone in real life, that's just insane!

RE:Vandalism at fishing spots?
It won't wash off Nolan. Permanent marker won't. I tried water and rubbing alcohol. It won't take it off.
#^^^^^^&, what's up with you? You were perfectly nice before you knew who I was. What's going on man? So far, you are the only person on this board that has caused an sort of a problem. I've been good on this site. I've tried to at least and I see some others have agreed with me.
And then you advertise this site on SOL. What am I some kind of a sideshow freak to you? Are you going to use me to attract people to this site? Dude, that's pretty beat.
You think vandalism is funny do you? How about I come up there and start defacing your spots? Would that piss you off? Sure it would. Man, most the people get pissed if they know anyone was in there spot. But fortunately, I don't have the time or the want to do that.
I know this is going to boot me off the site. That makes me a little sad. You know what makes me sadder? The fact that a person like Nolan can go from all noble and kind to a jerk.

C'mon Patrick, there wasn't much damage done. #^^^^^^& was just making a little joke. Don't take it too seriously. Some people on this site are so "soft". You can't say anything without someone cryin'. I do agree that soe posts are inappropriate, but this was just a little joke.

RE:Vandalism at fishing spots?
Easy Killer, that was pretty light from #^^^^^^&. He has brought the tweak to, while not an art, then certainly to a strange dimension (not that I always support his tweaks )... I don't think there is too much that you could do to pi$$ off Nolan but don't get too wound up about it.
The reason why you don't get harassed here much is because you've stayed pretty mellow here. The people that know you from other sites haven't pig piled on you here either, I think because you've been pretty level-headed and not a sideshow.
The vandalism part sucks and I know Bill doesn't advocate that but he thought what was written was funny and he said so. I've watched him stick his hand down a Bluefish's throat and get sliced up pretty good. Once we realized that he still had a thumb and that he'd live I laughed at him too. That was pretty friekin' funny... after the damage was done... Just relax and don't get too worked up about it, Ok...

RE:Vandalism at fishing spots?
Patrick , you have been well behaved here. People have noticed. Don't let someone bait you into spoiling that. It may seem important to you now but to the rest of the people here a little graffitti is not the end of the world. Just get another marker and scribble it out.
The more emotionally you react to people teasing you online , the more you invite more teasing. Is it right? no but that's the way it is. YOU have made a colorful name for YOURSELF in the past. As a result of that , people will keep ribbing you as long as they think it will get a rise out of you. At some point you have to learn to ignore it or it will go on forever.
All he said was "It sounds funny to me"...Big Deal!! Instead of overreacting and escalating things with #^^^^^^& , you could just try using humor yourself to defuse things. Or you could just ignore things. I honestly think that gets people more frustrated than anything. Eventually they will leave you alone.
One last thing is that this response from "guest" is exactly what we don't want on any of the fishing boards. Done anonymously cause that person knows nobody will tolerate that kind of thing. Anonymous threats. Very cowardly. Very stupid.

As you can see. That line was supposed to be, "I've just had a pretty lousy day previewed by lousy night sleeps"
That's what I'm saying.

Patrick, try acetone on the marker. It will take even permanent marker off. Some nail polish removers have acetone, but not all. check the label.

RE:Vandalism at fishing spots?
Steve, I'll try the acetone. Hopefully it will work.
It isn't even just the graffiti. Maybe I have a little too much pride in the places I fish. It seems like the regulars are always picking up junk left behind by others. In the Marina area where I used to fish, the town was even nice enough to put up mesh trash baskets that clamp to light poles and stuff. You see people, grown adults too, cut a piece of line and just drop it. Open a package of something and let the wrappers fly not even 20 feet from a trash bin. And then as I walk the beach, I find those silvery balloons, condoms, beverage cans, toys, styrofoam cups, and god only knows what else along the shore. We've been blessed being allowed to live near water, nevermind the ocean. You know there are people that never get to see the ocean? When I get married or locked in the looney bin(that's a joke I hope ), I better be near the water. I couldn't imagine being away from it. It's a second home to me, my best friend, my labratory, inspirations, dreams, hopes, prayers and things keep going that way on the internet, the only witness to my death as well.

RE:Vandalism at fishing spots?
We'll be hitting the water either late Friday night or very early Sat morning. We will be spending as much time on the water as possible short of getting one of us divoriced but our wives (they are sisters you see) are somewhat accustomed to getting pi$$ed at us when we're fishing together down there ... I'll e-mail you my cell# so we can try to get in touch down there and maybe mutually support on where large blues reside....
Its hard to belive but, Yes, I'm looking forward to a Bluefish Tourney...does that make me sick ???
