Spool for Van Staal Model VS150 reel (black)

The outer edge (rim) of the spool on my VS Model 150 reel has two small V-shaped grooves (at least 1/8 inch deep) that would be fatal to fishing line if fishing line rubbed across either of these spots during a retrieve. It appears to me that the edge of this aluminum spool is corroding away, perhaps at a spot where the black paint has worn away. If I pick at these tiny grooves along the outer rim of the spool the aluminum metal crumbles! For what it's worth this particular spool has seen very little service and it is in otherwise excellent condition.

Anybody else experience corrosion problems with aluminum Van Staal spools?

Also, anybody have a spare VS spool (for a 150 reel, color black) they want to sell ?

Any v/s dealer can get you a new spool. Try salywater edge, one of our sponsors.Pete gives great customer service and it's a great shop to poke around in.Could be that you had something rub it the wrong way because this spool will not corrode.
