more like withdrawl.
there is a huge live striper and re/black drum exhibit at the maritime aquarium in the main tank if you want to get a visual fix.

go down your road to the water, turn left, drive south.. at the un-named salt pond with duck language in the middle of it paddle your kayak out to the center and start jigging a pearl zume fluke. they are there

Herring/Vineyard
Mr. Sandman, since the indian tribes do not follow under the same herrings regs. as we do, and since you have on the Vineyard Menemsha pond herring run, I was wondering if it was legal to buy/beg herring from the Vanderhoops?

That is a good question. I know they have a pretty good run and a decent comm business. I have seen them make deliveries to some local shops in the spring (fresh dead). The general public can't use a dip net at their run. But I am not sure of the law in this case. I think it is up to the tribe. They generally support the public wildlife laws but I don't think they have to. IMO (repeat) MO! I think they could sell them. (who would buy them though?) That said the new constable out here will enforce the public law. I see this guy everywhere, he is fair but strict. He will fine you, and if you give him any lip he will take your gear, be an adult or a kid. I would think that and if he catches you with a herring (indian or not) you are in trouble.
I plan to fish storm shads and skip the herring. As I have said the saddest part is the social thing for me...it is fun to see guys that have been hibernating all winter. We need to find a replacement venue. Also, that is pretty much the only decent lobster bait that time of year and some like to eat the roe.

whos stopping you from going to watch the herring?? I go every spring just to watch. I hear RI is going to ban herring as well, but i will still go to watch, just like i always do. If you flip rocks in the runs, you can find elvers too. its a blast.
