Breachway Dredging

The Army Corps of Engineers are planning on dredging Charlestown,Quonny and Weekapaug breachways. No dates were given in the artical(projo.com-search;breachway).I have been told by the oldtimers at Charlestown breachway that this GREATLY improves the fishing as more water is able to move thru the channels. The artical says they are talking about removing the large boulders out front of Charlestown breachway because they are a potential hazard to boaters. Also talk of digging sediment basins in the breachways to trap sand from entering the ponds. Overall this should improve the fishing in these areas as long as they dont start til next december

Scotch some of the best fishing I ever had was near a dredging operation! The bass would come in every night after the job shut down and go nuts for all the little critters that had been moved up out of the mud And the bait fish that came in after all the small stuff!!!!! I'll give you one of my old tricks another great place is near any quahog diggers off shore as this also kicks up the bottom and starts up the food chain in high gear!!!

i've heard this same thing for ten years and nothing has been done. i'll believe it when i see the corp there with the dredging equipment. charlestown is in serious need for dredging. as far as removing rocks, i don't see the problem. that will hurt the fish structure. i've never seen a problem on the bottom w/ rocks, only sand bars in the pond that are exposed at lower tides. it would be nice for them to dredge though...

I'm for dredging up the breachways a little (from December to March ) but I like the rocks where they are. Unfortunately, if they are dredging for purposes of navigation, they'll probably pull the rocks too. Certainly that one in the middle of the dump at Quonny...

if they dredged, it would have to be in the winter. tourism in the state couldn't afford their waterways being worked on. especially weekapaug and c'town. as far as quonnie, i wouldn't worry about that "rock". it's a ledge. they would need to blast that out. and there's more behind it. besides, i like seeing the occasional lower unit taken off by the ledge. it's funny!

No talk of touching any rocks/ledge at quonny, just Charlestown.
