West Wall
Ahhhh, the Rituals of Spring ....
Left my house this afternoon with a honkin' wind jumping from South to SW. The wind was hard enough to make the siding resonate so I almost didn't go to the Wall.
Well, I'm glad I did because when I got down there the conditions were near perfect, Not too many people, relatively warm, & wind out of the SW from 10-15 most of the time and a big wet surf... I love that spot and even though I've caught some fish in the Thames and some in Providence since the beginning of the yar - those REALLY are what I consider my "First Fish" of the season. Ended up just one short of a dozen in 2 plus hours of fishing but it was great. Wind shifted south and a light rain started and it was all over but the ride home....
Even the "Backwinders" couldn't spoil it...
Had too much fun to even take some pictures, shucks darn

I would'nt mind breaking some ice this weekend myself. Did the arms get tired, or did all those 12oz curls keep em in shape?

John, was out there tonight with a SE breeze over my left shoulder, and got a bunch of micros (these were some pretty small fish!) at sunset. I know SW is best, but I don't let any unfavorable winds stop me from tryin'

I was thinking about it but my son is sick again... The wind up my way was northerly and when the radio said "sea breezes" down there - well, I would have gone had he been feeling better...

These first bass are some ugly little rats. No color, broken lines and just not happy looking. What happened to those beautiful purpleish pink fish I used to see early season. The one bigger fish I saw looked healthy- but the rest

Scotch - these are just silty fish. Disclaimer - I ain't no stinkin' Ithyologist, I can't even spell it. But, I've noticed different fish from different places. For example, the Thames River fish are brown clime & gray and some of the fish caught out of there just after they leave look like "Thames" fish. The Providence river fish are often very bright, shiny, & deep purple on the backs - great looking fish - but this happens when there is a lot of clearing rains keeping the upper river relatively clean. Some new fish have the lice on them when they come in (but I don't know enough about that to be sure)... The tan fish you saw at the Wall are just a little dirty from the ponds where they've been hangine out for the winter... Well that's my story and ....
