Squidder 140 HELP!

Just got a squidder 140 off ebay. There's a screw on the crank side that is supposed to take that whole side off, It turns and kinda come's out and just spin's. I dont want to pust it to much trying to take it off

any hints, tricks or tips will be appreciated

The screw is held captive in the plate with a spring--it is not supposed to come all the way out.

Hold the reel upright with the handle facing right, just like when it would be mounted on your rod. Loosen the screw, pull it out as far as it will travel, hold it and rotate the entire side plate towards you. It should move about an inch and a half and come free.

What Mike said. If the reel is older and has not been apart it may be quite snug.

Thanks , I got another qusetion do they have upgraded bearings, after I cleaned it up lube etc . the free spool spins 4EVAH. I don't know the year on the reel seat the# is 30-200. Deep maroon side plates no chips minimal rash chrome good no brassing made in USA.

Deep maroon could be any time from the mid 1960s up to the 1980s. They went to a lighter, brighter red sometime in the early 80s. You can't tell the year by the number on the reel foot--that's just the part number (shared with the Surfmaster 200, which is where the 200 part of it comes in).

I got my deep maroon one in the early 1970s from Bradlees in Falmouth.
