Striper Fishing In Maine?
Anybody know anything about areas in Maine that might be worth a road trip up to do a little striped bass fishing? Never seems to me when I am there that stripers are high on the fishing list up there?

I know I read that the fishing in and around Damariscotta was good....both fresh water and salt for stripers in some of the estuaries! I gotta check my OTW back issues.

I fished up there last year in Welles we caught a bunch of schoolies on clams, I went up for my brothers sons B-day and it was at a inlaws beach house so I made the best of the day by going fishing with my brothers brother-in-law. Drakes Island jetty, it is an out flow

Bass In Maine
Maine has excellent striper fishing and a lot of big fish like the rest of the coast. I've caught fish over 40lbs on artificials there as well as big fish on live mackerel and pogies over the years. The season is not quite as long as we get, but they have great fishing along most of the coast, from York on up through the Kennebec River. As most of the spots that I fish are within an hour's drive from my house, it is an easy up and down anytime of the year. If you have questions, contact the guys up at Saco Bait and Tackle, they are straight shooters and good fishermen.

The only chance I have for stripers are in Maine. From reading your posts...........it seems you guys get bigger fish. I fish the Kennebec and Reid Park. Schoolies all day, very few big ones.

Nope, No big fish up here
OK maybe a couple, as you can see by my handle we do have fish here. Last spring I lipped a 52" striper for an 8 year old from shore at the Kennebec. If anyone come up this way stop into our hardware store and I can be of some help. Harvey's Hardware in Gardiner. They usually show up around the 1st or second week in may.

They're there. I go up for a week every summer and fish most nights while I'm up there. I usually fish the beach because that's were we stay but the rocks would probably be more productive. From what I've seen and heard up there, a 20 lb fish is considered large, my biggest is about 18 lb. The nice thing is that I've never come across another fisherman at night and I fish two prominent pieces of structure. I wouldn't go up there just for the striper fishing, there are a lot of places that you could get to that are closer and more productive, especially for large fish. There were a lot of bunker in the gulf of maine last summer though and if that continues, more larger fish may start getting up there.

On the left of the pic is the spot where the Maine state Striper record was taken I believe on a flyrod. That is saltwater. Not very often you see this spot this calm. I took this on Friday am at about 7:15

There is a breakwater in Kennebunkport at the mouth of the river. Lots of fish, but it does get crowded somtimes (Damn Tourists!!!). Also the Mousam River off parsons beach, there is a bridge that you can fish off of, but that gets crowded too. There are a ton of other spots around but those are the most popular in my area, but I don't want to give them away.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

Gardiner is at mile marker 100. We are about 45 miles north of Portland on 295 two towns south of Augusta.

Just come to Maine spend your money and go home,we have no stripers here.We especially have no stripers between Casco bay and the Piscataqua River, none at all.Don't bother fishing from the jetties or the beaches, vast empty fishless voids.Don't use the very good boat ramps at Camp Ellis because there are no stripers in the Saco river or around the islands just outside of the jetties.
We don't have any Bluefish either,so I won't go into where you can't find them other than the afore mentioned places where we don't have stripers.
Hope this helps.

I was using the term hemp as a generic term Raven. I seem to remember you getting your panties in a knot once when someone suggested you might be partaking in mind altering substances whilst behind the keyboard.
No offense intended, but you really come out of left field with many of your posts. Wow!
