Heading down the first week of May, hope to get out fishing for some Cobia. Can anyone recommend a guide in the general area? Thanks in advance!

I can't recommend anyone but man if that is not one of the nicest spots on earth. Had a friend who lived on the Harbor Town course and we went down every year for the Heritage tournament. I could live there for sure. Enjoy. Paul

Yeah it is easily my favorite place for vacation. Usually we go out with a guide but haven't found one that has put us on a lot of fish. One year we went out and caught a ton of Spanish Macs but it wasn't very sporting, just trolled em up on heavy tackle. Another year we caught a few sea trout in the tidal marches but not much else. Anyway if anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it.

That would be great. I don't mind driving off island to a good charter if you can recomend one near you though. Are there cobia around yet?

I haven't heard of any yet. This place just about closes down (locals anyway) when they start running.
I'll check with the local charters also and get back to you this weekend. If they are reputable I'll give you their phone numbers.

These 2 have a good reputation. The first one runs out of HHI and Beaufort. The second one is here in Beaufort. I talked to a buddy of mine today who chases cobia. He said there have been reports of one or two being taken but it should pick up right around the end of April/beginning of May. Also, the Water Festival fishing tournament starts on 12 May and will make finding a charter during that time almost impossible.

Thanks a ton. The first one should be perfect for us, we have 6 people that want to fish. I emailed him, hopefully he has some openings. Hopefully the cobia fishing will be in full swing when we get down there. Thanks again!

Jaywalker,
let me know how the trip goes. Don't be afraid to get into some redfish if you have a chance

I went out on a gulf stream trip 2 years ago out of murrells inlet. (I go to myrtle beach yearly). It was alot of fun - lots of red snapper, redfish, bluefish, amberjack.

I tend to go down there late in the season though so I miss alot of the good stuff... Good luck on your trip! Ill be headed back in oct and will prolly do the Gulf stream again
