Jeep Wrangler Owners??

How are they on gas?? What engine/tranny?
Thinking of selling the pick up and getting a Wrangler, would like to get a mid to upper '90's with auto tranny. I'm reading that they only get 17mpg???

I'll trade you my 2002 Wrangler V6 4.0L for your boat........ (I wish).

I get about 17 mpg. manual transmission. Fun to drive, but not very practical. I haven't had my back seat in for 2 years.

My goal in life is to be the kind of man my dog thinks I am.

With my Grand Cherokee (same straight 6 as the small Cherokee and Wrangler), I get about 17-18 city and 20-21 hwy. Not that I do any "city" driving any more 19-20 average for "mixed" driving. I did about the same on my small Cherokee. I think the Wrangler suffers from its non-aerodynamic body---lots more places for air resistance than a Grand Cherokee.

If you go with the Wrangler, don't try to save an mpg or two by getting the 2.5 liter 4 cylinder. The difference between that and the straight 6 is night and day.

Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools, because they have to say something.

Nightfigther....I can tell you have never "Owned" a Jeep CJ...Wrangler or TJ....you are just repeating what others who have never owned one have heard. Yeah....like anything else if you take a corner doing 70 the thing is going to flip over......if you put yourself in a stupid situation...bad things will happen. I have owned 3 CJ's and believe me, they are as stable as anything else and I have never come close to flipping one over....WHY? Because I don't put myself in stupid situations. What were the circumstances of your friends tragedy? Just curious.

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

I had a wrangler and even though it was fun... it had more problems then you could imagine. You name it, it broke. It also wasn't that great on the sand. My 4runner is 10 times better.

A friend of mine bought a new 04 auto wrangler and in the first 5K miles, he had the brakes stop working, clutch fail, and rear diff leak. On a side note, the roadside assistance came up short when they didn't show up, then they told him to call someone on his own and they would reimburse him. They never did...

Jeeps with a 4.0 do not have reliability or safety issues. I beat the snot out of mine and its fine. I also know of many jeeps with 150-200k on them and thay still run fine. I'm on my 2nd and it took a pond and my poor descision making to kill my first. IMO the reliabitity has been awesome in the 1997+ models, despite Chryslers take over. Safety is just a common sense thing, its not a mustang. The biggest downfalls of wranglers is the size(freakin tiny) and the mileage.
