I witnessed the catch, what a monster. I used to catch a lot of big shad years ago in a tiny river north of me, but I've never got one that big. My biggest was just over 6 and that thing made it look small.

Mike it was a fish a cast, but micro bass and I finally left to get back to the office. I tried a few casts at Bell Rd. but it was wall to wall, so I didn't stay long.

I just got back from there with my boy Danny, got a few micros but Dan was more interested in the hermit crabs than fishing,

That's a big shad!

I used to see them big like that in Holyoke...
Man, can those things scream if they're in the current and over 5#!
I pulled a 4# gizzard shad out of the harwich run a few years back...Believe it ot not, lots of the old timers thought it was some sort of herring.
I think they'd been drinking...

Rick

Mikecc, was that shad cool or what, I have never seen one bigger that a couple of pounds, what a rush, Congrads Jim O, I took a nice picture of it and will post it when I get them developed.

Mikecc, we got alot of bass but man they were tiny, I mean about the size of the palm of your hand. Alot of doubles, but tiny tiny.

We left there and hit Oregon beach, the blues are in Big, caught 31 last night between 4 of us, up to about 9 lbs, all on Roberts Ranger, had a lot of drops and misses as the wind was brutal, but had a lbast well into dark.

Friends were fishing in a boat out by Wickets Island (the one you can see from the PT ) and lots of 30" bass . as they reeled in each bass squid would just blow out of the water. should be interesting over the next few days.

Interesting post especially because I caught two shad on Friday. It was the first time that I have ever caught one. The biggest was 8 pounds and the smaller 6. What a beautiful fish.
