crabbing
I use pogies in an onion bag or one of my bait bags on a good stout piece of cord. Forget the chicken fresh fish is best , a 6ft dipnet and a 4 in measure stickand a bucket. I don't know what town your in but any back water on the south side holds crabs . Small tidal creeks are bestjust before and after low tide has always worked for me. Good luck

I always used dead eels on a trot line when fishing for crabs en masse. Just make sure you check the local regs on shellfish - they change a lot state to state...
Damn - this has me thinkin' about getting some BLue Crabs

From the Mass DMF website re: crab regulations:
Recreational Shellfish Regulations
Species Minimum Size Other Restrictions
Blue Crab 4 1/8" shell width
(spine to spine) egg bearers cannot be taken; 50 crabs/day; no pots; closed season is 1/1 - 4/30, inclusive
Other Edible Crabs
(excludes green crabs) none; (season) same as for blue crab

me and my friend would go onto a jettie in chattham by his beach house and we'd take a strip of grass and crush up perry winkle and tie it and drop it in the holes that had water in them and we got atleast 40-60 crab a day...

Raw chicken also works, run your string thru the net with a long handle. pull in slow after letting it soak for a while. My town does require you to have a recreational license to harvest crabs. yum!
OH YEAH BTW!!!!
Blue crabs are about the meanest critters to fool around with, be careful.

I've used bluefish heads and striper heads simultaneously, crabs almost always go for the oilier bluefish heads. Bunker (pogies) also work well. The days of getting free chicken backs at the butcher's shop are over.

Yea, I had two trap once. I baited one with chicken and I baited the other with a whole stale pogie. Those crabs were all over that rotten gut.
