JohnR ZeeBass reel (update)- please help us raise some funds
Update: ZeeBass has been kind enough to make this offer
"Stephen
Thanks for suggesting our reel as a gift. I am willing to help! Please let me know the model, ZX2 or ZX2.1 The reel comes two colors, Titanium Grey or Satin Black. I will discount it 25% of retail. So your cost would be $974.00 I will make sure also that the serial number is under 100
Robert Koelewyn"
I have rec'd 115 via paypal so far (1:00PM 9/28). Please make sure to let me know what you handle is with your payment so I can give credit and keep track of who said they would pay and who did. This was very generous of ZeeBass to make such an outstanding offer to us. I think we need a final day for payment so we can get this wrapped up. We're really close, $730 in commitment right now. The final day to donate will be Thursday 10/5/06. Then we'll see what we have and go from there.
Thanks everyone.

So, I don't know if I am going to stir anything up here but there is a thread going on in the classified section, scroll down the thread a bit.

So far we have 11 people that have said they are in, depending on how many people commit, we could get a gift for our fearless leader who has provided all of us with such a great site. My 2006 season was the best of my life and I joined S-B in Feb. I have gotten great advise, met some new friends and have trips planned with members. For all that I invest in my fishing passion which was easily a couple thousand this year I have yet to give back anything accept advise to other members. I guess what I am saying is that it makes sense for me to chip in to getting something nice for JohnR, does it to you?
We'll need an organizer for this and I'm happy to oblidge but maybe one of the moderators will want to or someone who has been around longer so others don't worry that their money might disappear.
Either way, I'm in... Are you?
--------------------------------------------
EDIT: I guess I'll organize this then. I have a paypal account so you can send your donation Carlton_Stephen@hotmail.com (you can't see it but there is an _ between my name.) or mail checks to
Stephen Carlton
22 Gates St
Apt 3
South Boston, Ma 02127
Make sure to put your Handle on a note with your donation so i know who paid.
From there I am going to just use an excell spreadsheet and put your handle/donation on it so that people can make sure they get accounted for. If we come up short, we'll all have a vote on what is the next best thing. It shouldn't be hard... Whats $20 anyway??? A round of drinks, half tank of gas, a plug... lets do this and we can all end the season feeling like we did a good thing for a good guy.

A VS is a great choice if we don't get the Z ... we probably are close to that already.

We are close to the VS ... if we don't get a significant amount more donations ... let's not wait until next season to get this to John, so we need to set a deadline.

SluggoSlinger, since you are coordinating this thing, you should ask the seller if he will:
A) Hold the reel for a few weeks while we get this together
B)Give a break on the price for a good cause.
I still feel that a V/S is a V/S and although expensive, they are pretty comonplace. Getting the ZeeBass would be truly extraodinary.

I agree with the Zeebass idea. That is what we will push for.
If any of the sponsors have access to that reel and could order one and supply it at a discount that would be the ideal way to handle it. I might also get in touch with ZeeBass directly and see what they say.
I think the most important part now is that if you said you would pay, either mail a check or use paypal. If someone is going to be at the Harpoon Striper cup then they could handle taking donations and making sure that the people get credit for it. When we give this to JohnR, We'll give him the list of who donated what with it.
If this works out, I'll feel really good about it, we all should. We have 490 in promised money now. Lets see where we go from here!

I posted the Zeebaas reel thread in the Classified section, and have benefitted, along with the rest of you, from this site. It's great to see the interest in putting together a fund to purchase the reel for JohnR. Accordingly, I 'm willing to drop the price another $100, down to $1,000 (that's $300 off the sale price) for this purpose and would be willing to hold the reel for a few weeks to help you put the purchase together. A little background about the reel: Model ZX2/2.1, dual line rollers(multi-coated titanium designed for braided line up to 80 lb; 16.9oz, 12 ball bearings, special military coating on all surfaces to withstand salt spray; surf-friendly washout holes in rotor and spool; two different sized, interchangeable spools; line capacity is approx. equivalent to a VS 150; mahogany case; made in the USA, and of course, absolutely mint, never used, still in its case !

SS -
Thanks for managing this - we are half way there, roughly $550. If we go the ZB route, that is fine, but again, it will be better if we can get it to John before the end of the season ... unless he would not want to use it for fishing.

Surflawyer - it is very generous of you ... especially with the extra spool, so thanks for the generous offer.
