100's of plugs
100's of plugs and I only end up using 3 to 4 a night, the same ones over and over. Do we need all these plugs or are we just addicted to custom wood and VMC's?

or do you just have confidence in those 3 or 4 plugs?..
have you tried to work in a few others, depedning on the conditions?
is the catching so great on those 3 or 4, that you wouldn't even consider swapping the rotation?....
so many variables Bob .. or ..
yes.. the addiction to wood.. itsa so good...

I successfully moved into a single row plug bag this year. I always felt like I didn't have what I needed at first but these days I just swap a few plugs out depending on location, weather conditions, bait in the water, etc. Most of what I carry in the bag is the same from the start of the season right to end.

Pops hit the key word here, Bob: it's mostly about your plug rotation...
Let's say you truly favor 4 plugs mostly (for me, about 8- 10)... at the very least you need to swap out sizes of these 4 plugs, depending upon nightly/ daily conditions. For ex., I carry 5-6 different types of Needles alone: all different weights/ sizes/ sink rates, etc. Now what if you DO believe color of plugs matters-- as I do, though many believe White (and/ or Black) is all you need? Now you need each plug you favor in 2- 4 different sizes, and at least say 2- 4 different colors (2 colors at least-- one light & one dark shade, if you know when using each is favored). So: "only" 4 plugs you favor, really means 12 or more of these plugs on- hand (in your vehicle at least) if you are to be truly covered!
You've mentioned skunkings seem to like you, Bob: I can assure you if you're throwing a Gibbs Needle when you should be throwing a Habs or BM 2- 3 oz'er... Or if you are throwing your Spook when you should be throwing a plug with "dig" like a Darter or Bottle... or if you are throwing your fav. Pencil Popper-- a 1.5 oz.er-- when you should be throwing a 2.5 or 3 oz.+ P.P.... then indeed on that occasion you'd be lucky to avoid the skunk!
My favoring 8 plugs or so... means these alone number 30+ carried! NO WAY could I live with a one- row bag!-- then I'd carry A Bottle... but not two-, and three-, and/ or even one- ounce ones! I'd carry a Darter then-- but never 3 different brands, in 2 different sizes, & at least 2 different colors!... as I "need" to do!

I switched from a fairly large 2 row bag to the 3 tube aqua skinz this year. What I do is have 2 or 3 plano boxes full of plugs in the truck and depending on time, conditions, etc., I load the bag with what I think I'll need. If I change spots, I use a bucket to hang the wet plugs and then restock the bag at the next stop.
For rubber, I use the large aqua skinz pouch.
So far so good. My back feels a lot better too.

The latter, for sure. But so what? In the end it is all about what makes you happy.

I had a really hard time going from a 2 row and even a 3 row at times to a skinz 3 tube or two but now i wouldnt have it any other way. Im alot more mobile and comfortable. I always end up buying alot of plugs during the year, sell a bunch when it gets outa control, then end up buying them all over again..crazyness. There are very few plugs i still hoard at this point, usually they are the ones that are hard to find and i just cant live without...

It's definitely something that I have been wrestling with this past season ... as I always come prepared for anything and pretty much only use a few plugs or lures. When I fished the larger boat, I pretty much had six to 10 outfits rigged for a different scenario and used all of them on most trips.
Today, now occassionally running in a small boat, and fishing the surf on foot, I am carrying a lot less, and try to carry few - only what I will need. I'm still in the transition phase, but working on honing it.
As for plugs at the home base, there are many that don't get used, but that does not mean I won't use them at one point or another.

all this talk of having too many plugs.
heres ALL of what I have (well almost all. I have 2 salty seconds and a couple other random purchaces.)

you should feel bad for me and send me some plugs.
that mambo in the bottom left is the only one that has ever caught fish.
I need a clue.
... it was a schoolie, in the canal, with a mambo.
take that Mrs.Peacock and Mr.Body!

bought eels. didnt have time to fish. forgot eels. eels died. stink didnt go away for over a week.
this weekend bought half dozen eels.
they were the only life in the area I was fishing.
learned that I should be using a shock leader cause my cast snapped the line and mrEel went almost straight up and then straight down with my hook still in his head.
I need gear that wont rot.
