Fish still in the bay and a "Hot" Day
Headed out with Capt. Jim White and Don Coyne to film another installment of "Fishing the Ocean State" today. We noticed a huge smoke cloud on the horizon and decide to investigate. The fire was at Rocky Point(I thought it was my house!) and it was huge! Don got some unique footage that will air tonight on Channell six at 6pm, I am positive he is the only one with this perspective! Check out that 50 cal on the front of the coast guard boat!
On the fishing side we did extrememly well, landing 49 Bass Jimmy put us on the fish at evey turn! and only one bluefish...The show will be great! The bay is absoulutly loaded with bass! Think the show will air after the first of the year.

I think because Rocky point is abaondoned and no one lives anywhere near the place, they just decided to let it burn...we thought the same thing at first! The heat was intense, in the boat it felt like it was 90 out!

Wow! That's a nasty scene there Bill. Doesn't look like the FD was able to contain it. That's a 60mm I think, tracers every third.
|
Why even try.........

SAW(squad automatic weapon).
.223cal.(5.56mm).
Lightest machinegun in the US arsenal.
Flap...60mm is awfully big! That would be 20mm bigger than the grenades used in an M79/M203 grenade launcher. To shoot a projectile that big the gun would be bigger than that boat!

Um, that's a big negative. The weapon you see is a M-240.

M240 Excellent for clearing buildings....Don't even need to open the door to reach into the next room...Should take care of 3/4" plate with no trouble..

Could be a Training fire. The Fire Departments look for old abandoned buildings to torch so they can train and test equipment.
Could be why they aren't exactly panicking to get it out

Saw that smoke today from my route in Tiverton. I called my girlfriend to see if she saw what it was on the news. I knew it must be pretty big.

Just saw the footage on TV and was wondering who took it from the boat
I saw the flames as I left my house this morning. Lotsa smoke and I can still smell it out my house (.75 mile away). This was a 6 alarm fire according to the radio, lots of units....

Looks like a concrete structure and probably because of that the wood interior burned like the inside of a wood fired oven.....nothing they could do but let it burn out.....couldn't cut holes in the walls to relieve heat, pressure or get water to where they needed to to knock it down.

Almost time to get our fish on!!!
