Best chance for a 60?

Where is your best shot at a 60? The answer will surprise you.
I just finished reading an article entitled "Super Stripers" in the March 2002 issue of IN-FISHERMAN magazine.
The author, a guide, made the following statement: "In 2000, my clients and I boated 35 stripers over 50 pounds and four over 60. So far in 2001 we've boated 27 over 50 and 14 over 60." Where is this place? Tennessee!! The Cumberland River impoundments.
The author is also an advocate of releasing these monsters. They take photos and make replica mounts. He holds the Tennessee state record at 65.6. Very interesting reading to say the least. Next time you consider a road trip to the Outer Banks take a right and head west.

That's getting real big too. I've heard a lot of people saying that some lakes in Arkansas & Lake Mead outside of Vegas prime spots for the next world record....

yeah, but catching a trophy bass in fresh water doesn't count. it's like getting one from a boat. just not the same.

I agree lapinski. The beach is infinitly more challenging.
Good question Jettyjockey. Never thought of that. The article does state that the guide is participating a tagging program for Tennessee. He did not mention any re-catches. This is big water fishing with large live baits (shad and herring) and the 7" Cotton Cordell Redfin is the preferred artificial. Smart choice. Also my favorite in the salt.

Its interesting but I hope the world record doesn't go that way. The way people are talking , its just a matter of time before one of those freshwater stripers gets to 80 pounds since apparently they have no natural enemies in the bodies of water that they habitate.

You go to the sunken tree south east by east of the Launch Ramp and wiggle the Shad by the tail. Big Mama comes up and as you pat her on the head you slip her the Shad.
She then rolls over and lays on her side so you can pick her up as you have done many times before. Pose for Photo Op and then slide her gently back into the Lake.

Next stop is Big Nana's Snag by the old Oak Tree on the Bank.
You just tap the side of the boat till she comes up to be fed.
Same Drill: Feed her and then pick her up for a Photo or two and back in she goes.

Now Man! That be real Striped Bass Fishing.
