Need Help in my addition to stripe bass fishing! - Striper Talk Striped Bass Fishing, Surfcasting, Boating

Dear S-B members:

This is CWL again! This time, I need help in balancing my fishing life and other activities.

Since the beginning of May, I fished almost every day at either P.I. or Hampton and I have caught near three hundred bass including 3 keeper in the size of 30", 32" and 34". And, I have been too anxious everyday thinking about catching a monster stripe bass. With this anxiety, I am not interested at my surrounding events which include my job, family life, kids, party and yard work. And whenever I did the work other than fishing I have a feeling that I am wasting my life Besides, since I have to catch the best out-going tide at P.I. , I slept very little recently in order to work on my normal job at the day time! --I may need to see a doctor!smash: smash: smash:

So help! Any senior members has similar experience in this regard, please share a few opinion to my adiction to fishing.

OUCH - CWL, I ain't touching that one with a ten foot pole...

You think it's bad now, wait until you trade those inches in for pounds and you'll be shocked how your pulse races when you pass by some sweet bassy water. That you KNOW there has to be some real nice big fish in the water RIGHT NOW between point A and point B!!!

You gotta find the balance somehow. Unless you have a very understanding familiy & job, you'll need to budget time for the fishing.

Only thing I can recommend is that you try to stack the deck in your favor. Try allotting less time for the fishing but that the times you do go out are when the odds are the best... Doesn't always work but it may be the only way you can achieve SOME balance...

Im not a senior YET ! But I juggle fishing , work and family everything else aint worth my time . Good thing I know how to juggle , I can keep 3 things in the air at the same time . Ill be senior in about 23 more years or when I grow up . Most likely the latter !

I fish once a week(maybe twice) due to wife,kids,job,yard. I try to enjoy being out on the water and not obsess about the size of the fish I'm catching. I know there will be a time when I can kick it up but now wife and kids come first. Keep your balance or lose it all. Good luck!

I'm not sure I'm quite balanced enough mentally today, to provide advice...

Maybe try to think of what life might be like if your family was gone. Try to think of what life would be like if you lost your job. Seriously try and put yourself in that situation.

Hey, if I could fish everyday, I probably would. My wife recently mentioned that I don't seem to watch anything that doesn't involve the ocean, I don't read anything that doesn't involve the ocean, and I don't go anywhere without my bps or cabelas catalogs... and everywhere I reside (home, garage, car, office) has fish pictures or fishing gear.

But I need my job so I can have my boat, my rods, reels, new tackle... take trips to Nantucket or Florida.

And my daughter means more to me than anything else in the world. Thinking about losing her, that would bring me back to reality no matter what I was doing.

Maybe figure a way you can include them... I know that fishing saltwater doesn't always lend itself to a family outing, but I'm hoping to have my daughter out with me in the next year or two. Not everytime, but if I can combine some light fishing with quality family time... that's good for both of us.

CWL, get a grip man, what are you going to do when the season's over and there are no bass period?

HA! funny you should ask that question.........I went too far and now I am paying for it.....hubby and I fought just last night about how I am not home anymore and I am "neglecting my duties"..............GGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!! !

Dear CWL,
Please come in and lay down on the couch and I will turn the lights down so you can relax.
Now, this problem that you say you have involves Striped Bass? Please do not think that you are alone in your illness because you are not alone. This sickness inflictes hundreds and possibly thousands of men and women every year along both the West and East Coasts as well as many of the large inland bodies of water that hold Striped Bass.
I have had this sickness since I was 5 years old and I will be 65 in July of this year. It is not an illness that one finds a cure for readily. I have thus far in my pursuit captured Stripers up to 61 1/2 pounds and still I find myself waking in the middle of the night, looking at the clock and realizing that the tide is turning in my favorite fishing spot and then laying there trying to go back to sleep but unable to do so as I am too keyed up to rest.
I urge you to get a grip on your life and set your priorities so that you can continue to be the man you are and not become a zombie in constant pursuit of Bass.
You admit that you have a wife, child and job. These are important . You don't mention that you desire to have a boat, motor, trailer and tow vehicle, six more fishing rods and twelve more reels and fourteen more boxes of lures and baits. There is hope for you!
When the weather is unfit for fishing, hug your wife and child, tell them how much you Love them and appreciate having them in your family. Then when the weather turns good you can go fishing knowing that you have told your family how much you care!
Remember that your job makes every thing else in your life possible so always go to work cheerful that you have this job. Put out of your thoughts that the job is in conlict with the best bite and swiftest tide and best fishing time. Remember your priority. The job is most neccessary to pay for the fishing!
I am sorry but your time is up for now.
The tide is about to make in my favorite spot and I have to go fishing. I don't really care if you pay me for this visit or not, just get your car out of my driveway, I want to go fishing!
I need to go fishing and I will drive over your car if you don't get it out of my way at once. Hurry, Hurry.!!!!!!!!

I appreciate all your help very much! I found most of you
are very responsible and do take care your family and work besides fishing.

Well, I will keep in mind the consequence of doing too much fishing and ignoring other activities! Especially, under current recession time, I know I can not find another job fast enough to to pay my morgage and make my family comfortable in time.

Yeh, may be twice a week for striper fishing will be enough!
And, I have to do it on weekday night, since in the weekend, my kids and wife demand my energy in their activities. Life is really full of struggles and tade-offs.

In my church, Some people ask whether marriage still exist in the heaven. And our passtor answered that there is no marriage relationship between you and your wife. But all I were thinking is whether there are sports like fishing which make me happy in the heaven while praising our God--but I dare not to ask this question since my passtor had said that everyone of us are happy in praising our god only, which I am still don't quite get it... I hope I won't be rejected outside the heaven because of not understanding praising God is the only thing make me happy.

I to had this same sickness[ the best kind]. I made a deal with my wife a looooooong time ago. That I would only go fishin AFTER everyone else was in bed. Reguardless of what the tide, or best conditions were. And you know something I think it made me a better fisherman because it made me look alittle harder for those better spots, an once I found them, I could take what time I had an hit them hard instead of just wondering around. YES, days just got in the way of my nights. BUT I don't regret making a deal with the devil. because all my praying to the fish god has paid off.

I guess it doesn't help matters when you also spend so much time on the internet fishing sites

I try to go 2 times a week and three if I'm lucky. But I would go everyday if I could

I can't get enough.

You need a bassmaster night

WOW 300 fish in 1 month, that's alot. I only caught like 400 all last year.
I don't have much advice for you , sorry.
