Not Rock???
WTF??? There are some great rock drummers, and I'm a huge Neil Peart fan...but compared to jazz there isn't much going on.

oh my god, do we agree?
Like with any instrument, the jazz musician is FAR superior to any rock musician. I played guitar for 15 years, taught for 4 years before studying jazz. I felt like I never knew how to play music once began learning jazz. Im not trying to put rock down, I love Jimi, EVH, Vai, etc, but even soloing through a basic jazz standard is more complicated than most rock tunes.
Listen to Elvin Jones playing behind Coletrane for 30 minute versions of "My Favorite Things", never playing the same thing twice and never losing the rhythm.

Loved seeing Buddy on Carson years ago. Carson himself played drums but wasn't in Buddy Rich's league. Thanks for posting links.
