Molly

Benefit planned Friday for ailing Benjamin
PROVINCETOWN - A benefit for noted Cape Cod Times outdoor writer Molly Benjamin has been scheduled from 5-10 p.m. Friday night at the Provincetown VFW at 3 Jerome Smith Rd.

According to a release promoting the event, Benjamin is suffering from an untreatable form of cancer.

Attendees are asked to bring positive energy and "Benjy" stories to share.

The writer is well-known in Provincetown, where she once lived and worked for decades before her move to Wellfleet. Her fishing and outdoor columns have a devoted audience in print and online.

Food and music will be provided, and a fund-raising raffle is also scheduled.

Moderators: if you think this is better off in the scuppers, please move, just thought the cape guys might see it better in the main forum, Thanks.

Say what you will about her but she did a fine job and she represented both recreational and commercial fishing interests with equal respect. She attended many many meetings on Striped Bass management and othern issues such as beach closures, restrictions and our old friends the plovers.

Here's one to Benjy and hope and positive thoughts for a change in prognosis.

I don't know if I can make it but I will certainly try.

Why even try.........

Very True Flap.. while I didn't always see eye to eye with her, I always respected her. She is the real deal. Enjoyed her serious in depth articles, much more than the weekly schmooze.. "reports"..
I know, those have there place, and sell papers, and keep the bait shops happy.... but.. they did draw a crowd sometimes too.. and sometimes for no good reason.
But you are right, she was always there for both the comm and recs, and always a supporter of access.
Not looking like I will make it Friday night.. got some shifts to fill at work.. night guy broke his ankle on a side job.. but hope there is a good turn out for her.
(Not looking like I will make the seashore thing on Saturday AM either.. .. hope there is a good turn out for that.. too!)

I hope this turns around for her, and she can keep doing what she loves.

I only met her once but she seemed like a hot chit. I did enjoy reading her stuff online every week.

RIP Molly you will be missed.

A sad, sad day.

I'm so glad Molly had the opportunity to meet and greet all of her friends last Friday night at her benefit at the VFW. Even though she was very ill, you could tell she was having a great time, laughing and re-telling a ton of old tales.

RIP Molly, and thanks.
