Rod recommendation???

I am looking to buy another rod...in the $100-200 range...looking for something around 8'6" or 9'...only to toss plugs in the 1 -4 oz range...any recommendations out there...i have a fenwick saltstik that i really like but want to have something else on hand....and input would be most appreciated

Quarrow.In the price range you're looking at it IS the best rod,bar none.

For a factory rod, I think St.Croix makes a number or rods that are excellent for that application. My only beef with St. Croix is that they seem to always have 1 fewer guide on the rod than what I would normally prefer.

If you mean "blank" (untied rod) for that price range, then a Lamiglas Ron Arra will be excellent. I recommend you speak to Mikecc here on s-b.com or at M & D's Cape Cod tackle (http://www.capecodtackle.com/) and he can point you in the right direction or build a custom rod for your needs.

Is Quarrow the company that makes blanks for many other high-end rod companies? If so, that would probably be the best deal.

Imo, I think if the rod building forum had a sticky thread of rod selections and what they are most commonly good for. Three section glass, graphite and composite. Because blanks like the 1088 and other is so commonly recommended fishers can use it as a helpful guide, maybe call it "the most wated" Obviousely there are builders who know and could put together ideas for such a thread.

I just test wrapped/taped an RS SU1088. Not the best eel rod, but it will do. I was able to effectively cast as low as 1 oz. I went up to 4 w/ no problem. For 2-3 the thing is a rocket launcher.

It is a very fast rod. NOT good for pencils. It has ALLOT of @ss though so it should be a very good nightime plug stick that can throw eels in a pinch.

The RS SW 1088 was a littlle lighter than I was looking for. A better rod for eels but less backbone.

FYI... The RS SW1088 is VERY close to the old sabre 1088's. the SU1088 is very close to the all-star 1088's. At least this is what I have been told by people that have used both.
