NEED FISHING INPUT

My friend and I plan on fishing off the coast of RI next week and we were wondering if anyone could give us some info on where and what is producing some good fish. Has anyone been doing anything in "THE RACE"? Where should we go and what should we plan on using for gear. Our plan is to fish as much topwater as possible, but should we maybe run some baits for larger fish?

...I'm trying not to be sarcastic here, but...

...is "The Race", off the coast of Rhode Island??...

...I'm not a boater so I'm not too familiar with places outside of walking distance in R.I. ..and I've never heard of the Race...so maybe its somewhere "OUT" there.....or maybe even incredibly North East...."OUT" there.....what gives?

...it finally happened, there are no more secret spots

Bloo, I think there is some place in Long Island sound that is called the race, but I guess from RI, you would need a boat.

not only do you need a boat you need a very sea worthy one ! the race is between little gull and plum island at the east end of long island sound . This is where the glasiers stopped and drops off from 40 - 60 to over 250' . Its always Hot with blues and decent stripers . I do believe they are having good and bad days with stripers winning the pool . I used to fish there every weekend years ago on the party boats out of point jude and niantic ct . Man Ive caught a lot of big fish out there .

Closer Spots

The Dumplings, Mack cove, Annawan, Pt. Jude Light, Center wall, B.I. at the N. Rip, S.W. Ledge and S.E. Light all produced large Bass this past week. Eels mornings and evenings have been the hot ticket. Umbrellas and tubes during the day.
WAY closer than the Race.
Next week....Who knows?

Thanks capndave for the report. By the way, what is the best way to fish the Parachutes.

Jigging Chutes

Slow trolling with as much non-stretch line out, such as wire or braid, as needed to fish near bottom and constantly sweeping the rod back and forth to impart the "scurrying squid" action the jig is meant to represent.
Parachute jigging catches fish. Often, when nothing else will.
That said, it is "active" fishing and the surest way to find out whether you have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Tendonitis or back problems.
