Cutting a Lami1321L
Got a lami 1321L up in the rafters. Wrapped spinning, fixed reel seat, foam grips, Sic guides (except the collector). Matched with a green 706. Splined wrong. Too heavy. Haven't used it in near 20 years. Wouldn't sell it with a misaligned spine. Thinking about tearing it down and rebuilding something more useful 9-10 ft. I'm pretty well set in the heavy conventional dept (1205 and KennedyFisher 10ft), and light conventional dept (11ft Zziplex BASS, 9 ft lami glb1L, 1203), only fish plugs, was thinking of building a shorter spinning set up, probably to throw 1-2.5 oz. Anybody cut one of these things to do that or am I wasting my time?

Seriously, what have you got to loose? I'd take off the reel seat and all and customize it to your liking if I were you. Use a dremel and a cut-off wheel to cut slots lengthwise in the reel seat then pry it off with a screwdriver, go slow so You don't cut into the blank. Rebuild that sucker..Good luck and have fun. |

Another option is to cut about 4" off the tip (to a 12) and make it a killer big water plug rod

Mike Rivett( at Nelson's still?) used to make a nice rod from that blank by cutting one foot off of the butt of the blank. It makes a nice outer cape bomber/musso needlefish/eel rod. It comes out a bit stiffer than the GSB1201L.

I have one that I cut one foot off the bottom and it is a good eel rod also throws medium plugs, tins, not so good with bombers but it will do it. Cutting the blank does seem to make softer more glass like. good for lobbing eels with out them pulling out. the rod will handle big fish on the sand.
