Question Trailering from Plymouth, Ma to Salem, Ma

Hi Gang,

I'm helping a buddy pull his boat from Plymouth to Salem for a repower. The plan is to go 93 thru the tunnel then up route 1, but I'm hearing some grumblings that you can't pull a trailer over the bridge (i'm assuming they mean the bunker hill bridge, but not sure).

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks - Jim

I've pulled boats over every bridge, tunnel and road in and around Boston, even stopping in Chinatown to get a bite, double parked and didn't even get a second look from the meter enforcers, they walked on by this past Friday evening. Tow all you want over the Zakim Bridge. I went over it Friday night and through the tunnel, into the financial district and in Chinatown to get food and I do it going home as well all year round.

I remarked to my Dad that it must a strange site to see a boat in downtown when just then a well-heeled woman said to her 3-piece husband, as they were walking by, "Now there is something you don't see everyday."

If you guys are going over the Tobin Bridge, go over it, there isn't even a toll going that way and who is going to stop you anyhow? There are no signs anywhere prohibiting trailered boats on the road and I've never heard of any grumblings of trailered boats being prohibited anywhere. Tractor trailers go whereever they please so long as they fit.

Thanks Bass, I agree, the boat yard said they do this run all the time. As long as the beam is 8' 6" or less no problems.

Salem or bust . . . the 91 Johnson 150hp is already off and a fuel sipping 2003 (62hrs) 140 suzuki is coming on.

thanks again.

J&W indeed. Wow is it busy up there, makes my Rt 3 north daily commute seem like light traffic.
No problems with the run up.
What do you think the 140 will push this 21ft privateer? The 91 150hp hit 43mph on gps with 3 guys aboard and a full tank a few weeks ago.

just a thought, why all the way to Salem? Couldn't Monihans in Weymouth or some place closer to home make the same deal? Asking in case I need someone out that way to fix my ride while doing a trip in the Bay?

Newused first day

1991 150 Johnson was on a 21ft Privateer, new to boat is a 2003 140 Suzuki 4strk.
IMHO The Zuke is great, after todays run, all the good things I’ve read and heard are true. The bad news is minor, but here it is. Idle is low 3-400rpms and will stall, it takes a while but it stalls, does start right back up, hopefully that is an idle adjustment and top end was down from 43kts with the 150hp to 35kts with the 140hp . Today we went from Plymouth to ptown, the fishing there stunk, but we left catching puny stripers to get nothing, then back to catching puny fish. But the day was about checking out the motor, and that went great. First efficiency guestimates are 65mi = 12gal.. That’s a doable day. A new prop might increase the performance some, but like today, sometimes the seas only let you go 20kts, but I like it dry and non pounding.
