tiny little fish.. what are they?

while "getting rid of some left over bait" i observed birds (i think they were a smaller gull species. the pointy winged things almost look like swallows, black n white coloring) flying over my head.. in non stop streams. with what looked like peanut bunker (about 2-3inches, silver with dark/black backs.) in their mouths. i mean just one after the other in both directions. i lost sight of them on their way to the fish.

any sightings from boats of these lil fish around the (nothern part of) south shore area? and if they aren't peanut bunker do you know what they are? and what would be effective with them around? i had my buddy pick me up some pogies,( i am fairly certain our shop has no peanut bunker) i will see how those work out tonight. but i would really like to know. as only in the past week has there been any signs of bait fish in the area. would really really like to get away from the clams and save some money..

Come over to the "Plug" side Christopher! Bait will be almost useless in that situation....you need to toss something that moves into those peanuts.....pencil, spook or a swimmer of appropriate size! Tin, rubber shad....anything but bait!

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

well first i gotta get out to them.. don't forget larry, i was a strict plugger until last year. you could not pry my orange rapala broken back out of my hands with the jaws of life. it's like 8 years old. still in my box. i've swam to retrieve it before. it's produced more fish for me than anything else ever. even fresh water. and 9" is pretty big for pond meadow to be gettin hits.
sadly it's to old. and reeks of rubber and oil. and paint. and other un fun things for fish to eat. and has stopped producing. but i still have it. and will use it. i cant find another one any where.

Those are Common Tern's and they where picking up silversides. There is a colony of them nesting not too far from your favorite spot.

I fished there last night from midnight to 0230 and picked up 3 small stripers on bait (whole tinker mackeral). Then headed over to another UDL and scored a 33'' on a needlefish and then finished everything off at twilight with 4 bluefish, 3-5 pounds.
