Talking Please Welcome newest member

COOPER! Rescued him today from North East Animal Shelter.
5 mos Chow, Lab Shepard and other stuff mix... A true mutt! Kept getting overlooked cause is previous owner didn't want to take care of his mange (the not catchy kind). He's on the mend now and soon will be ready to help me bring in some cows . Quite a handful at the moment ... but has a big heart and wants to do nothing but play. I can relate

thanks pm... he's a little unslightly right now but he's gonna shape up nice. and if he doesn't... well, we got something in common then. everything i've read so far about mange is that under 1 y/o the chances of them making a full recovery is very good.

Nice dog! Pound dogs are the best! I got my dog shep about 5 years ago. He had intestinal problems and had blood in his stool, had been passed around the shelters for 9+ months. Two months of meds and not being stressed in a shelter cleared it right up. I will never buy a dog from a breeder , when there are great dogs at the shelters in need of homes.

thanks guys.
now that he's been home for about a week he's getting comfortable with being a puppy which means constant supervision and that puppy energy is never ending. but nothing beats how happy he looks when we come home from a day at work or how content he is just sitting on the porch watching the world. (he really seems to like that)

gonna see how he likes the boat this weekend weather permitting. I'm guessing hes going to be pretty scared at first... Any tips on getting him used to it?

Any of my dogs that I trained for duck hunting, we always start out with the boat on dry land. It lets them used to the new surroundings before it starts moving under his feet. Plenty of praise and no force. If you have to drag him into the boat - don't do it or it will be a problem forever. Good luck -

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day ...
show him where to fish and ... you'll be sorry

Congrats!! man I love dogs... hate people though.
We have also gotten all our dogs from shelters/rescues: lab/shep mix, pit bull mix, and our current troublemaker a pit bull. ALL great dogs.

Oh yeah , BTW , I have had dogs and or cats my whole life and never bought one. All from the pound and all outstanding pets. give a homeless animal a break and save yourself several hundred instead of going to the pet store.

surprised to hear it cost money. All mine were free...free. Cats and dogs. Only thing we had to do was sign a paper we would spay them cause they were young females. They even gave us couples sometimes for a discount with certain vets who had agreed to spay the homeless animals for cheap money.
