TODAY"S REPORT - Striper Talk Striped Bass Fishing, Surfcasting, Boating

Blew the day off and went out with my buddy.
We saw birds/blues breaking at allerton for a while, got a few there.
Then headed to cohasset/scituate and found tons of birds working peanut bunker (I think) and loads of blues.
Stayed there for a while and got some decent blues top water action. Lost only 1 plug.
Headed out to the ledges after that and we were into NON-STOP bluefish action all day (some up to ~12 lbs.) . There were also plenty of stripers in the mix.
Todays score (estimated) 60+ blues, 10+ stripers, 1 seagull. Biggest bass around 20 lbs. (seagull was too small to keep)

WHAT A DAY !!!!

but exhausted.

Bummer I have to work the rest of the week..

Van thanks for the report. Were the fish in area that was striking distance for surfcasters? I've been jonsing for a good bluefish blitz from shore.

stripers and blues are blitzing early mornings off Long Beach and Pricilla Beach in Plymouth. Most of the action takes place within 15 feet of shore. Yes I said 15 feet.

These were not near shore, however some sources report that there have been busting stripers within reach at the pt. allerton area.
I am not familiar with the shore scence from there, but I would think it should be easy enough to get to some hot spots.

There is still plenty of time, I would think with the massive amounts of blues around, some should come in close (like the old days), you know what I mean.

Mike: Stellar day is an understatement.
Tom went nuts today he had such a blast.

We had many doubles of bass and blues.
Fish were following their hooked friends right to the boat only to get hooked themselves by a waiting angler. .

It was a great day but we didn't beat that bass you scored..

they must follow you. i went out yesterday from 3pm to about 11pm. off allerton near the ledges, backside of bumpkin, mouth of the wier river etc. i dont think i need to tell anyone the results.:m

. saw the fish working the bait just about everywhere i went. they were breaking water within casting distance off allerton. i saw someone running down the beach towards birds working the surface and i thought wow look at this guy go. turned out to be beetle. got your pm, thanks van. i think im destined not to catch fish. tryed hailing ch 69 but its a handheld and i dont think it works to well

I didn't turn the radio on at all yesterday.
I was out early and heading back in around 3.

It was quite a day..

Lets see what happens after this hurricane passes us by.

I would love to head down Saturday evening for some action from the surf unless anyone will be boating down there & doesn't mind a passenger!

Do you mean the directions to the shore spots?
If so, I've never gone there from shore, but point allerton is in Hull. Lots of people know that area, and it is fished by many on this site.
I'm not familiar with too many shore spots, and I guess it depends on where u wnat to go.

Boating if questionable for a few days, the ocean might be nasty due to the hurrricane offshore.
I'll be checking the marine forcasts closely in the days coming.

I can say this.

I have made lots of new friends through this site and
by my membership in the MSBA.
People have shared info with me, and I have also shared it with them and others.

There are lots of great folks here and in the local clubs.
Some new friends I made, I have invited to come with me, and I hope they will do the same for me. Whatever it might be.

So keep in touch with people here, help them as they help you and you never know..

Good going Van.

Admittedly, I prefer stripers, but blues are a blast and I'll take 'em any day over a skunking. When they are goin', it is some of the most incredible action in the fishing world. Seeing them slashing behind a fast moving plug is too cool.

Yesterday, I got out a while and the wind kept me in the harbor, but the blues and bass were everywhere... at one point I just stopped and watched the mayhem for awhile. I don't think being a little bunker or silverside would be alot of fun right now.

You got it right. Watching those blues rip through bait is quite a sight. On sunday with my son and flatts1 we also had blue action.
My son had a blast watching them tearing up bait and slap at the lure many times before the hookup. Then when he saw the fish would jump out of the water, he was screaming. (so was I actually)
They truely are very exciting to catch and they never stop fighting and thrashing, (like bass who sometimes give up too easy).
Pound for pound a much better fight. I had one on my fw rod with 12 lb. line and a long steel leader. what a battle!!

Tuesday they would keep missing the plugs and when it was close enough to the boat, I could see 3-4 fish following it. We saw hooked bass doing that too (unfortunate for them).

I can't wait to get out there again.

Hi all,
Normally in my "other life" I would only run for a cold beer or a fine looking woman

. Now that I fish again, I feel the need to run to bustin bass ! Gilligan (formerly known as Prince -- oops - MS5712!) - the reason I was running - was to beat you and the other boat to the fish -- to get a cast in before you came to close and spooked out the fish ! Note: - 75-100 ft. from shore in shallow water with 2 engines running = bye-bye fish!!

No big deal - just part of your learning curve, (i've done it myself) I had been fishing there for 4 hours chasin those schoolies around with only one hookup (22"). Frustrating - they were there the whole time and then some !!
They're getting their fill of peanut bunker and are very picky.
I have plans to head out in the boat tomorrow with a friend. Probably be out around 10am to maybe 5 or 6 we'll see how that goes.
