big live bait fish trap ??

i am looking for a extra large size live bait fishtrap suitable for catching adult bunker. gonna leave it in the water overnight. any source suggestions???

I'm not an expert, but, I'm not sure you can catch bunker in a trap... are'nt they plancton eaters?

I agree with bigtim, you've got to net the pogies then store them, and if you're planning to keep a trap/pen overnight, be careful about posting that stuff here. The enemy is everywhere.

I don't think you'll have much luck catching Bunker in a trap..Not sure how you would even bait them..Even if you were anle to coax them into a trap..they probably wont live more than a few hours anyway... It's much easier to find a pod and snag or net them..

200 sq. foot gill net 8' deep x 40' long 3/4 mesh so they just get thier little head and not gills stuck in it. I and a friend had one. We would set it a night among the moorings and row around it to herd them in. You can tell by the floats if you are scoring as they will submerge when the bunker get inn the net. Cape Fisherman's supply will build it for you.

I believe, but don't quote me, that with that size or smaller you don't need a license to harvest bait if it's for personal use

yea a gill net is a great option, however you dont need to set it over night if you dont want. sometimes you can get a surplus of bunker in about 5min if you find a school. you do need a permit to do this but its not very expensive.

A throw net works great as well. Takes a little practice, but well worth it. Make sure your get the heaviest ( weight per foot) you can. I wouldnt go over 8ft radius at first. the bigger you get the harder to throw. Back when I was young an lets say immature, a buddy, lobster guy, and I would put out his gill net and "lure" them in the net with M80's.

driving big circles around your gill net on full throttle will also drive the bait into the net and you wont lose any fingers that way (hopefully)

200 sq feet or less no license needed in MA for a gill net. That's only a 25' x8' net, which is small.
