shimano trinidad and calcutta reels

I'm going to attempt to pick a few peoples brains on this subject. I currently fish with a shimano calcutta 400 levelwind. I'm thinking of purchasing the trinidad series to replace my calcutta 400. I'm looking for something that is non levelwind but has the push button that is accessible such as the calcutta 400. does anyone know if the trinidad series is intended for boat or boat and surf? any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think the trinidad is more of a boat reel, at least I've never seen one in the surf... How about a Calcutta 700 non-levelwind? I've hear mixed on them as opposed to the many thumbs up on the 400 (probably my favorite surf reel)...

after some research

John,
After doing some research I realized that the shimano calcutta te is what I meant to ask about before.. My calcutta seems to lack in the drag department. I know that I can put smoothie drag washers on her but was still thinking about upgrading. If I do upgrade I'd definately go without the levelwind as it gets in the way when eeling and plugging.

What year is your 400? The drags were updated about 3 years ago, free of charge. The 400 has one of the sweetest stock drags available so if your drag aint working, they're worn OR I want to fish with you so I can crush my drags and see if they aren't holding up

Seriously, when was the last time they were replaced or cleaned. Did you have the drags changed?

ill gladly take that calcutta 400 off your hands when your done with it. i fish an abu c3 6500 and it works well. my reel seemed to have had the same problem with the drag after a while but i totally dismantled the reel and put it back together and cleaned the drag up and oiled. after that it worked fine.

live to fish. fish to live. rod tips high.

calcutta 400

John,
I purchased the reel a few years ago. I'm sure that it's got the old drag in it. Don took a look at it. There was a lot of give in the reel for while. Don't get me wrong it's a solid reel. I just would like to get a non levelwind. or the te series..
