new spinning reel

Hello,

I'm forced to replace one of my lesser used spinnign reels this year. I had a small abu garcia cardinal on the rod which was woefully undermatched for the job. The rod is a 7 foot med-lt st croix. I don't use this rod that much and am not inclined to spend a ton of money on the new reel so I wanted to hear what you guys thought. I was going to go with a penn ss450 but I was tempted by some of the cabela's products, the prices are ridiculously low. Does anyone have any experience with these? I would be using the reel with 8 - 10 pound test for small stripers and blues from the boat. Thanks

Hey Mike,

I don't have any experience with the Cabella's reels, but I've had a Quantum Catalyst inshore PT40 for a couple years now and the thing is great. It comes with two spools and I use one with 8lb test for largemouth and one with 12lb test for all my light tackle saltwater needs. I highly recommend it, and the new model comes in a sweet looking gunmetal color.

Hope this helps!

Billy

quantum is good stuff but if you can get a crazy deal on something maybe you should just try it. worst case scenario you lose a small amount of money and/or a schoolie
