Poison ivy is alive and well. The SHEET is all over me. Damn it all. Any suggestions to get rid of it?

TECHNU get it and use it constantly. It will kill it in a day on your skin.

that you take steps to isolate the area you have it on your body

since you didn't specify....where you have it..

no need to explain further...

just know that you can scratch it in your sleep

and then transfer it where you definitely don't want it if your not careful that is... know what i mean?

so wear a long sleaved shirt to bed or wrap gauze around the
infected area before going to bed....

and don't fool yourself into believing that you won't do that
because you sleep like a log or anything else...

bullet proof the area 's men or you'll pay dearly

as for the vines as soon as it's sunny buy round -up
and spray it real good if it's growing where you live...

you need 4 days of sun for the systemic to work well

i need several gallons of it myself...

Salty's product recommendation is more than likely excellent

but i always buy nutritional brewers yeast powder which is whats left over from making beer or the flakes at
the nearest health food store and make either some ice cream shakes with it or mix it into yogurt...and the flakes mix with milk real quick.. and make it taste real good...

when you start taking the brewers yeast , the poison Ivy Blisters stop in their tracks and dry up pretty fast... it has every B vitamin in it except b12
and clears up your skin like magic...good for kids with acne too

i hate this plant with a passion
if i even see a nearby tree
with a twenty year old vine
growing up it with a thick stalk
i grab the ole double bladed ax
thats extremely sharp and cut it.

just reading in my new April issue
farming Magazine that the reason why
poison Ivy is thriving is due to a RISE
in carbon dioxide levels that are making
much stronger healthier plants. The US
dept of agriculture says that the growth rate
for poison ivy has Doubled in the last 50 years.

and since....
it grows up trees too.. as a parasite
after several years the tree dies
so keep that in mind when you see a vine starting
to grow up your wonderful tree...

birds eat the blue poison IVY berries
and then pass the seeds spreading it
everywhere.

KILL them vines

Don't follow the directions. Gob it on and rub it in really good. Then keep doing it. It's got wood fiber in it and it draws the oil out. I leave it on and not wash it off. It removed ALL poison ivy from my nephew literally overnight a few years ago.

If cvs don't have it then Home Depot does in the plant department. Usually around the indoor fertilizers I think.

Go to the doctors and get a prescription for Prednisone...it will be on the mend within 48 hours.

Amen brotha! Dotn even screw around with the pink crap or any other stuff off the shelf. Get the prednisone an dbe doen with it. I get poison ivy just from looking at it and the Prednisone is the only thing that will get rid of it.

I used to gte it really bad and very easily. i got a series of shots over about a years time when I was about 15 years old. I still get it but not nearly as bad as before. In my teens , if i got even a single blister , my whole body would erupt.

the oil is so potent that its has been looked at as a chemical warfare weapon. Some miniscule amount , like 3 ppm , will cause eruptions in most people. Believe it or not , despite its potency , there are some people who do not react to it at all.

spring is here. I posted that spring is not here till I get it. Just a matter of time for me as I like to be in the yard and have some nice crops of it in the area. Been lucky so far. Wear gloves. You can get it from the root if it hasn't emerged yet. That is the way i usually get it. Sucks. I have to say i disagree with Raven

and say you can't spread the problem. It is not contagious. The fluid from the blisters will not spread to other areas or other people. Only way to spread is if you touch the Urushiol chemical in the poison ivy plant, whether being on your hand , pet, clothing if not washed off. Much worse to have it during hot humid weather. It is not spread like an infection from oozing sores but if the oil is still on your skin (in with the blsters , etc) then scratching it can spread the oil and that will spread the inflamation. I used to get these thin lines of blatsers now and then. Found out is was from the claws on my cats paws having oil on them.

the Urushiol can be spread by using soap if it hasn't already penetrated your skin...

Urushiol oil is strange stuff...it penetrates your outer skin layer
in like ten minutes then laying upon your subcutaneous red layer sends up the blister....they recommend using just water or rubbing alcohol to remove it from your skin rather than soap when first exposed.

Paul , ortho makes a poison Ivy killer that doesn't kill neighboring plants or trees like round up does... active ingredient : triciopyr

another remedy is (a powder of) Tide laundry soap and water to make a thick paste ...leave on 20 minutes ..stops itching too

i think personally that the blister fluid has a small amount of
Urushiol oil in it and the blister is the bodies method to expel it
like a mini volcano getting rid of lava.

Saltheart when I was a kid I was deathly allergic to cats. Hair, scratches, anything. Shots twice a week and I outgrew it around 16 yrs old.

Cats would make me want to rip my eyes out. I was allergic to wood and wood dust too. You name it.

I hate poison ivy though.

maybe it's the secondary infection it causes that you can spread...

yeah pets are carriers of it...especially dogs because you pet them

i intend to smother out allot of it with plastic and spraying because my freakin dog is always in the brush - chasin critters..

a total mouser... all i know is one year in california i had it
on my #^&#^&#^&#^& .....and i wasn't running around naked... LOL

i was so covered in Calamine lotion i looked like a pink easter bunny

ever since then... it's been public enemy number one for me

because his neighbor was burning it
and the smoke came into his bathroom window
and he inhaled some... then complications set in
and he died in the hospital during the 50's

I get it from the dog a lot. You are right if there is any oil and you touch it, it can spread that way. You need to wash very good the areas. Once oil is eliminated you can't spread it. Sometimes if you know you touched it and wash immediately yo can avoid getting it. If i just look at it I get it it seems. Rav If I see it, I cut it, and then spray the cut ends with round up. Seems to work pretty good. Problem with pulling it up and out is if you leave even the littlest piece of root it will grow back, alien like .

if your using a systemic spray like round up you want the surface area of the poison ivy leaf there to coat it... then four days later it has traveled down to the roots and killed them... then you pull it

Worse I have ever seen was hot and humid July a neighbor got it under his armpits his bush and around his eyes. He was so miserable he wanted to die. Sweat and oozing sores. This was 35 years ago and treatment has come a long way. Burning is a no no for sure.

Seems to work better if you spray it down the stem to mainline it. You are right about spraying the foliage with round up. Just make sure you don't have it on your shoes and walk around on an customers expensive lawn if you are a landscaper.

Probably want to watch that stuff round the eyes Matt, it's got wood particles in it that is what draws the oil out and makes it gritty. Don't think you want that in your eye. If it goes for more than a few days I would go get the steroid shot but with caution as the steroid shot can do damage to internal joints etc.
