trolling bunker spoons
Does anyone do this here? I have never done it, but I got one of those Jimmy George "Secret Spoons" a few years ago as a gift and have never used it.
What kind of rods do you use for trolling?
Is it OK to use braid or should I stick to mono or wire?

Traditionally they are trolled on wire line set-ups.

Wire line setup, very slow action rods. I have used a pair of Lami 1023m's cut down 10" on the tip for this for about 15 years. I actually would prefer a longer rod to get the action.
IMO, You have to get the snap, release, load the rod action perfect to get them to really catch.

this is a low and slow technique? Can you use this in the boston are or is there too much below to get hung up on?

I've done well in boston, just know your area well. The biggest issues I had were with boat traffic. Let the rod tips dictate your speed, should be a pumping action. |

You will need a heavy duty set up to pull those beasts. Guy who uses, made, those uses 400 to 500 feet of wire and a giant Penn, i read. Stick with the regular spoons, Lupo, etc.. Wire is the way to go. You can fine tune the boat speed by the rod, pumping , action. A nice long, soft, rod 7 to 10 foot will enhance the spoons action. Horizontal rod holders are also something to look into as it spreads the spoons apart and keeps them from tangling on turns. Nothing worse than binding 2 of those set ups together, I know. Great way to catch a big fish, but takes practice like anything.
