Question heading out in morning where to go?

Well I plan on heading out in AM for some surf fishing, my first time I'm really not sure where to go I will be using live bait, any tips on where to go and what type of bait to use would be helpfull.
I'm from Hartford area so I will be open to anywhere from Saybrook East. Thanks In advance. I figure to head out around 3:30am

Hiker - welcome to S-B - right now a lot of us shore guys are hurting for fish as it is fairly slow all over. Without knowing what "bait" your using or style your fishing its hard to say. But if you have livies, you're probably stuck near your vehicle (hence the "live" part) so try some shoreline against the road, fishable bridges real close to surfzone. And when in doubt, pray for some blooofish

just keep lurking for a while and read read read.
make heavy use of the search feature.

you will get to know who is who. most folks, even when they are hassling are still trying to help a bloke out.
look at the number of posts they have made, and when they joined.
and if they really get down on you don't sweat it. send them a PM to find out what rule you broke.

its just like a great big pre-school here
some run with scissors, some dont flush
some share, some dont.

There is a fine line that seperates a fisherman from a fool standing in water swinging a stick.

Well II headed out as planned and ended up in a few places, first Old saybrook nothing so I headed to charlestown breachway fished the beach, picked up a small blue, nothing on the end of the jetty so I decied to use my ultra lite trout pole and picked up a few Scup, lots of fun with the ultra-lite. Anyway it was good to get out and talked to a few nice guys out there who had some good tips and a few other places to try looking forward to getting out again.
