Angry Fishing Pigs

Having recently done a conservation clean-up at Gooseberry Island in Westport, I was really disgusted with what slobs some fishermen can be. About 40 people collected over 40 bags of trash from the island. I personally found many empty tackle packages that didn't even look a day old. I found beer cans, coffee cups and bait boxes. I found broken sand spikes and a broken rod. People, please remember. It is this kind of behavior that the DEP and other state agencies see and turn around and use as fuel to close our fishing areas. Too many people fight too hard to keep these areas open so that we can continue to enjoy them. Do you really want to lose your favorite fishing area because you are a slob? When you go fishing, pack it in and pack it out. It's a lot lighter to carry out because it's empty!! Don't be a fishing "pig". Take your own trash with you and if you see more, pick it up too. It will only help. Thank you for listening and may you find that 50 pounder!!!! Tight lines..................

Carry in-carry out, sometimes more than I brought, never leave trash because it will come back to bite you in the butt. I still believe a large percentage of the problem is the cooler full of beer mentality. You know the type, the guys that think drinking and fishing is the only way to have a good time at this sport. Not that they can't be educated, but I'm afraid a good number of them have apparently killed far too many brain cells already.

FSHRWOMAN....welcome aboard....

the "trash" topic has come up many a time around here.....I think we are all disgusted....and many of us have said how we all take a little extra time to bring out more than we brought in....or at LEAST what we brought in... ........unfortunately these slobs give the rest of us a bad mane and will probably never change....the best we can do is keep our morals in tact and keep cleaning up after them (before it's too late... )

SAD BUT TRUE......

Welcome to S-B....

Of course, you're kinda preaching to the choir here. That is a constant topic around here.

Who was the cleanup with? Some of the members here are involved in various regional fishing clubs and residential assoiations that are involved in cleanups too. Getting some info ahead of time might wrangle an extra volunterr or two as well...

Wink fishing pigs

The cleanup was the weekend after Columbus Day weekend, sponsored by the Mass. Beach Buggy Assoc. It came to reality just a few weeks prior. The MBBA does more cleanups and conservation projects in the spring. Guests are always welcome. I will get the word out ahead of time. I realize there are only a few "pigs" out there but they could put us away!! I'm sure this topic has been a bad subject for years. I guess us "neat-niks" just need to help educate others. Happy Turkey Day to all............
