Music- what's your favorite album that no one knows?

Mega road trip from St Louis to Walpole and then 10 round trips down to the Canal requires something to keep me happy and awake...

I am open to anything from LOTS of Phish, LOTS of Dead, Duke Ellington, Roy Orbison, Brian Eno, 80's stuff, ALL CLASSIC ROCK, All Jazz, but not too much rap or punk rock... I like EVERYTHING!!!

I'm looking for your favorite album that you don't think too many people listen to... Please help me out, I'm experiencing dowloaders block

Also, anyone ever keep an ipod in one ear while fishing? I never have but I race bikes and spend close to 20 hours a week on one and almost always am listening to music. When my GF asked me if I listened to my Ipod while I fished it was weird that I have never considered it...

Help a brother out!

Anything by Chris Smither (Blues)
Sara Tavares - Balance
Ryan Adams - Cold Roses
Vieux Farka Toure

I'd rather be fishing!

before i dropped my ipod from 35' on staging, i used to listen to it fishing all the time. it never quite worked again after that fall. Piebald, Built to Spill, and anything country are all good when fishing or just about anything else

Tool makes some damn fine roadtrip music, IMHO. I'm enjoying "parabola" right now. I don't listen to anything when I fish, though. Just the thoughts that spin in my head and hopefully, breaking fish!

I'm gonna have to agree with RickBomba on this one.

"That large bass rise in the dim light of the false dawn, and take my steel-lipped swimmer. It will thrash, pull like mad and throw water all over the place before it dives for refuge.
This is why I am a surfcaster." - D.J. Muller

I came close to throwing one in the Canal last year, when the guy wearing headphones couldn't hear me yelling "HEY, DON'T CAST. I HAVE A GOOD FISH ON"

I've also been on a Muse kick for months, especially if it's live.

Big in the UK, but mostly unknown/unliked over here. Great for getting up in the early morning to head out fishing or for staying energized in between fishing spots late at night.

Radiohead In Rainbows

Never really understood or liked this band until I heard this song, serious musicianship.

Bodysnatchers, great live version

There's some sort of GD and Phish relationship to fishing. Not sure if fisherman are prone to listen to them or if fans of those bands like to fish, but it's there.

None of these albums are unknowns by any means but they're just hidden enough to sometimes be overlooked. Given what you listed if you don't already have them you're sure to love them.

Grisman & Garcia: David Grisman and Jerry Garcia

Bela Fleck: Tales from the Acoustic Planet

Hot Tuna: Live at Sweetwater Two

Old and in the Way: Breakdown

Who would have guessed. I have everyone of those albums. Old and in the Way is one of my top 10. Grisman is an absolute genius.

Talking

An album that brings back a lot of memories because I happend to be in New York city in the crowd at the Ritz when a lot of it was recorded is "Urgh, A music War!"

When Klaus Nomi hit the stage in his Kabuki Space man get up with the falsetto voice doing "Total Eclipse" the place went Ape Sh!t!!!!!!!!!!

Why even try.........

A current musician that doesn't get nearly the love he should is Martin Sexton. Amazing singer.

Good Albums are Black Sheep, Seeds, The American, Live at Central Park

Have a safe trip.

Johnny Cash "Live from Folsom Prison"
Screamin Jay Hawkins "Cow fingers and Mosquito pie"
BB King "The best of BB King"
Squirrel Nut Zippers "Perennial Favorites"
Big Audio Dynamite "This is Big Audio Dynamite"

Local bands are:
The Spurs, The Cranktones, The Coachmen, Lovewhip, Babaloo

Some of my local favorites from back in the 80's:
The New Models, Face to Face, Private Lightening, Ministry (before Al Jurgenson's acid induced music), Adam Ant, Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode (Before the bands depression phase). I was a true alternative / punk rock kid, but I love ALL types of music (except rap, which I don't consider music).

Lately for me it's been bluegrass - anything by Byron Berline, Doc Watson's "Docabilly" and Union Station -

Sorta gets me pumped driving out at night - had some friends in a BG band many moons ago and got them a gig on the Block (or the Island, if you're indigenous to that place) - a few never left. I mean, they're still above ground and all, they just never got back on the ferry. It happens.

Yup, that was more than 30 years ago BYWB - Before You Were Born, in some cases

Boy, that kind of arithmetic can be scary

"There is no royal road to this heavy surf-fishing. With all the appliances for comfort experience can suggest, there is a certain amount of hard work to be done and exposure to be bourne as a part of the price of success." From "Striped Bass," Scribner's Magazine, 1881.
