Lamiglas Super Surf

Shopping for a new rod and looking at the SS10MHS. Think this rod is suitable for canal jigging 5 ounce bucktails? I know its a good plugging rod and not the perfect jjigging stick... but will it do the deed if called upon?

Yes--it will throw 5 oz bucktails if need be.

i dont own one but heard it was actually a better jigging stick and tough topwater stick. made you work to hard at topwater and after a couple hours you would be pretty beat. heard from a few owners but dont know from experience. but i am plannind on getting 1

Depends on where you're fishing. If you're throwing topwaters in the Canal, the current does a lot of the heavy lifting for you. All you have to do is noodle the tip to give the plug a little bounce.

It's still a moderate taper blank, when all is said and done.

I got one wrapped spinning. Very powerful rod and seems to cast a wide range well 2-5 oz. Great fish fighting tool, but I prefer my 1205 conventional for plugging (I don't fish the canal much or well, however).

i had last year's Super Surf and it was great until i snapped the thing in half during a cast. they re-designed the blank over the summer and Lami sent me a new rod a few weeks back. i've the fished the ditch with it 4 times since i got the new rod and had a few fish around 25 lbs jigging big shads. i've also caught fish around the same size throwing pencils at daybreak. i haven't caught a giant yet, but i think it would handle a big fish just fine. i think its a great all purpose rod that will get the job done in the canal as well as off the rocks, throwing monster eels and plugs....

o-ya got 1 last wk ,set it up w/ dawia emblem 5000 reel, w/ 30 p pro green,mounted to 10 ft ss mhs rod is 1 peace and rated at 2to6 oz w/ 17 to 40 line .for me its per-fick lots of power for jigging or throwing loaded cordells it tossess plgs and jigs around like a ROCKET . 100 yds + after your first hr.balance rod reel and line w/ 2 to 4 oz progectiles. rod price about 299.00 .........dig deeeep its worth it.. dave

May be now that you have posted that people will listen to you. I've been complaining about Lamiglas guides for yrs and no one ever listened.

I agree the Lamiglas Super Surfs are nicest current productions rods and they aren't any more than the Lami Arra series.

IMHO - using the same guides for both spin and conventional was just plain lazy on their Lamiglaes part! Yeah, the Hardloy are may be a whopping 1/3 more expensive. Total cost would have been under $5/rod in the volume they buy.

Deaf ears. I mentioned this on SOL when Todd Vivian was still a higher-up at Lami and he claimed that the oxide guides were just as good as the Hardaloy.

I have the SSU101MHS I love it ,took plenty of fish in the mid 30s in running current. Turnt them with no problem. Each year at the end of the season I sell off my rods . If your looking I have the M & the MH they are in great shape and they are for sale after this friday. My thoughts turn to 4 leg critters

Test drove the factory 2 piece SS. Wasn't for me. However, all this researching blanks and rods is giving me a real headache. I may be in your shop soon to see what you have and see what you can do for me over the winter.

One other thing I noticed about the Super Surf series--the one piece 11' (available only as a blank) is a totally different rod than the 11' two piece. Thinner butt diameter, much more of a moderate action. The two piece has a thick butt section and is much, much stiffer and faster

I think the 11' one piece will be a better plugging rod than the 10' MHS, and the 10' will be a better jigging rod.

Was looking at the ratings on the Lami blank charts online. To add to the confusion, some rods rate much higher and some lower to what they are in the real world. Therefore the charts are somewhat worthless when it comes to researching lure ratings. There is not any comprehensible standard. Did I say headache!

Checked out MikeCC's one piece SSU101MHS. Beautiful rod - just what I was looking for - was very tempted to buy it except that circumstances dictate a 2 piece rod.

Mike agreed that the 2 piece SSU 10 footer is a totally different rod than the 1 piece. In fact Lami has no business even giving them the same model number.

Looking at the XS10* if I can even find any. Or maybe even the Tica TC3 Dolphin to get me through the season. Can't find those either. Oh yeah and G-Loomis Surf which are also hard to come by, and the....

*Seems to have crappy guides.
