First thing you're going to need is a rod longer than 8'. The rest of your tackle should be OK, depending on the size and strength of your reel, and how much braid it holds (by the way--50# is plenty strong and it'll get your jigs down to the bottom a lot faster, and with less weight in the head, than 65 or 80). Bring jigs and rigged Sluggos between 2 and 5 oz in weight. On a smoking moon tide 5 might not be enough, but by casting farther up-current (assuming you're not interferring with other fishermen) you can manage. It's good right now. How long it lasts is a crap shot. Usually by the end of October it is pretty much over, though most local regulars keep at it through Veterans' Day. Your best chance at big fish comes between now and Columbus Day, although there was a 60#+ fish taken on Halloween not too long ago.
