I landed 3 keeper between Falmouth and Cotuit this weekend from the beach, your about 3 weeks early putting the stuff away.

As I improved my techniques and results over the years, and included the canal to my list of fishing locations, I learned that when I voluntarily stopped in mid-October (years ago) I was missing out on the potentially best times of the season.
My first successful season was halted around mid-October, and I thought "That was great!", until I heard/read that fish were still being caught up into November. The years that followed, up until current, has me fishing up to and ususally through the end of the month.
Over the past 2-3 years I have had phenominal outings at the canal on Halloween. Not so much the size as the quantity. Maybe catching schoolies isn't everyone's cup of tea, but since we begin our season with them I don't see anything wrong with ending it with them. Sure, there will be some legendary keepers still cruising through, and that will always be the primary motivation for hitting the surf in Oct/Nov, but it sure is fun being able to catch enough to make your arms and back cry for mercy!
Each of the past few years have been this type of outing. Catching fish after fish until you just can't make another cast.

I am looking forward to the approaching winter with anticipation. It means ice fishing season, and aside from the derbies, it gives me a chance to shoot for my hardwater goals: Try and get a striper through the ice in the Lower Mystic lake, or getting on the board in the Meredith Rotary Derby (NH) in February.

Still finding some fish around here too. Kind of surprised... Had the place all to myself too. No blitzes, all blind casting at dawn and dusk. Had a decent fish come unbuttoned at the water's edge tonight. I think this is the latest I've had surf caught locally. Probably because I just used to pack it in when the blitzes of past years ended.

I wish you guys wouldn't post up pics like that, anyone who kn ows anything about where you (we) fish is zoning in on that spot an making plans as I type this. No need for any more company in a spot where four guys can tie up the whole place.

I hit the east end last night for the tail end of the incoming tide.
Fished from 8:30 pm until 10:30 pm.
The water was calm (calm before the storm?) and the wind was nil.
I managed to land over a half dozen fish, with 2 keepers to boot.
I may try again on Thursday, but we'll see. All I can say is that there are still fish to be had, but you HAVE to put in your time.

Hey flap... that particular picture has about 6 miles of sand and we hit fish in many of the spots that we tried... may not be exactly where you think we were!! Thanks

I went yesterday all along the beach, not much happening, a few small fish here and there and no one was there Steve, not a soul. You are thinking of another place. Plenty of sea ducks, I have never seen that many birds in one area in my life, and sunfish, 4, and a pilot whale. One of the nicest days of the year weather wise . Fished in a tee shirt all day, flat calm. The lack of small bait, peanuts, has made it very disappointing. Plenty of sand eels but no blitz's the last few times out for me along the 7 mile beach. You must have caught them all Ernie.
