OK - Getting my butt in gear - Rod Raffle
Over the summer, Capesams, very generously, donated a very sweet custom Batson 1088 spinning rod to the site! He donated it even BEFORE he became a member here and swiped his first plug. He donated it to the site to raise funds for running the site. Capesams, I sincerely appreciate that!
I'll post up some pics when I can find them or take some new, but I want to set up the raffle for this rod.
It's a Custom Batson 1088 Rainshadow setup spinning. These rods typically sell for nearly $200 and up depending on where you go and this one is no strippy. It has a Fuji Seat & Guides and some very nice wrapping work with a really smooth finnish, a nice Striper Logo, and "C.M.F." Custom Made for www.Striped-Bass.com inscriped on the butt section of the blank.
So I'm looking to start the raffle @ $8 a chance or 3 for $20 and closing out the raffle roughly one month from now, Saturday - January 11th. Again, all the proceeds will go to the site.
And everyone give a big thanks to Capesams for donating the rod!
Thanks
John

Also, what about shipping? Is it part of the raffle or should I come and pick it up when I win?

OK - minor detail, eh?
I'll gladly take checks seeing that's the only form of paying that I can take that will go into the site's account and not into Matchbox Cars for my son... You can post how many chances you want online or you can PM me... Again, this is a big help to defray the costs of running this site. It is not what puts food on our table - if it was, well, can any of you that know me picture a skinny JohnR?
Make check out to Linesider Technologies & Mail to:
Linesider Technologies (Sounds real techy, don't it?)
P.O. Box 9183
Warwick, RI. 02889
Shipping:
Depends on where you live. I can run it anywhere from Watch Hill to around Boston where I work. Beyond that, I imagine we can work out a ground shipping in a PVC tube...
The rod is rated 1-4. I have 2 that I use, conventional, and it is my primary eeling/plugging stick. I tend to use plugs up to 2.5 for this rod. It's definitely my goto rod and I also think it's the best bang for the buck custom surf rod going these days. A small step up from the 1088 Pac Bay Saber which is it's kissing cousin...
I'll get some more pics up when I take them, but here is a shot of the butt wrap:

John---sometime when you have a chance, do some ceiling poking with one of your Batson 1088s next to one of your brother-in-law's "original" Sabre 1088s. I'd be interested in knowing what you think. To me, the Batsons seem a little stiffer than Pac Bay's 1088s when I've flexed them side by side in CMS.

Mike - done it, I bought the last plum 1088 from Mike T after Bobby Andrade went thru his old stock like a vacumm. So now I have this old, plum colored Sabre 1088 which I compared to several Batson 1088s and they are pretty close.
Some of it is backbone, but overall, the rod just feels much more crisp and in line with those 1088 Sabres. I like it. I've built a couple Pac Bay 1088s and a couple Batsons and I must admit that I like the Batson better. It's just that the 1088 Pac Bay feels a little willowy in comparison. You mean you don't have one of these yet ? When the time is right, I think you would like one on your arsenal.

I have one, genuine, original plum Sabre IGSC 1088 blank still on ice. Last one on LI. The originals had "IGSC 1088" inscribed in red ink near the butt of the blank, under the gelcoat
It's 3-4 inches shorter than the Pac Bay "Sabre" 1088. The Batsons are the same length (they're actually listed at 8'10") and the same cripser action, and the tip size is closer to an 8 than a 7. The Pacs have like a size 6-1/2 tip.
I'm thinking of getting a Batson 1088 spinner for the little lady. She's currently using my original plum 1087 bit it sorta wimps out at around 2 oz. Or, I could have one built on my stashed plum Sabre. Decisions, decisions
It's been almost 2 years since I had a new rod built---the last one was the All Star 1266/2 Mike did up for me. I'm getting due for another one

Hey Mike - decisions, decisions... Think long & hard about that Sabre because once it's done, it's done. On the other hand, the Batson is certainly a good bang for the buck. I'd build on the Batson...
"the little lady", ahh, I see - good for you
Raffle - thanks guys - getting the PMs, e-mails, and responses
